I recently purchased the new HP mini100. I was excited beacuse of its compact size and large keyboard. So far, granted I've only had the unit for about 4 days, the product is great.
HOWEVER, in addition to the mini, I also purchased a 2 year extended service plan for almost $200. I logged on to register the certificate today. Sounds easy enough...ABSOLUTELY NOT the case. My first attemp resulted in an error message that stated the service was not available at this time. So, I thought, just call them. After being transferred to LITERALLY 4 different departments, someone finally though he was the right person to resigter my prodeuct and service plan. Over a 30+ minutes conversation, I provided him with serial and unit numbers for the unit and service pack about 10 times. First of all, I ordered the product directly through hp.com, so wouldn't they know what they sent me? After the initila 30 minutes, the HP rep then informed me the serial number for the HP mini was incorrect. "I'm looking at it on the back of the unit." It was also the same in the Bios view. Then, the rep said I will transfer you to someone else who handles service pack registration. I thought that's who I had been speaking to in the first place!!! After about another 10 minutes, an English speaking woman conferenced in and said "I took care of it - everything is registered." I said "but the serial number doesn't exist" - she interupred "It's all been taken care of." I asked if I could be sent an email confirmation with the transcripts and outcome. "Sure," she said. The email I recevied was nothing more than a generic .pdf file saying what a "good choice" I'd made in my purchase. I DON'T THINK SO. In the actual mail, my name and address were completely butchered. So, I have now been on the phone (still) holding for an additional 45 minutes thus far simply trying to get someone to change my persoanl info. One rep tried to walk me through the registration process all over again - refuting my argumements - and guess what? When I entered the Mini serial number, I received a reply of "invalid serial number." I then asked to speak to a supervisor. ...................................................................on hold for 24 minutes (don't want to hang up because will have to go through process again)..................18 minutes later...talking to someone in U.S. She changed it in less than 2 miuntes. WOW!
Forget about trying to deal with customer service when you "have a problem" - I can't imagine! I can't even successfully register the new prodoct I purchased. Litterally the WORST customer service I have ever encountered in my entire life! Buyers beware!!! Not worth the hassle. Go with Dell (my PC) - service is great!!!
