HP Pavilion DV6000

Overall
Rated 4 out of 5

I have only owned 2 laptops in my lifetime (one before this one), and I have loved both of them. The only reason I decided to buy a new one is because my old one had become very slow and it was a bit bulky. I decided on this one because it was a decent price (under $1000, refurbished), and the style was nice-looking and of decent size. I was told it had quite a bit of space, which is good for someone like me who stores a lot of music and pictures on my computer. The graphics are pretty good when I'm watching a movie or TV show on here, and it doesn't take long to load up. I do everything on this laptop - schoolwork, emailing, you name it. I have only had to take it in once - it crashed (whic...

Hp Pavilion Laptop dv6409, now in recall...

Overall
Rated 3 out of 5

I love having a laptop and purchased this way back in 2007. It worked awesome for me until summer of 2010 I started experiencing some problems and not being super tech savvy relied on my brother to tell me if there was something I could do. Apparently, after checking my scans, and looking online, he told me I might be able to complain to HP, but it wasn't something that I could really fix. The graphics card and motherboard are combined, and I was happy to hear that I wasn't the only one having problems. As of January, they have issued a recall. I have upgraded my memory, Office software, and battery. I am not happy that I'll have to strip my computer, but I am happy that I will receive...

We purchased the HP dv6000 with only marginal research when our Dell up and died. While I don't usually make large purchases without doing my homework, we lucked out with the dv6000. It has been a capable performer and has surprised us with some thoughtful features. While some of these features are now commonplace, they were new on this model. The built-in SD card reader is probably the most used of all features. It is as easy as a thumb drive. Being able to turn the finger pad off when using a separate mouse is great. Plus it is turned on and off with a physical switch - imagine that. Having the Quickplay buttons above the keypad is both good and bad. They make playing DVDs, adjusting volume quick and easy. But they are also easy to accidentally hit which can be annoying. Another negative is how hot the lower left of the unit can get when being used hard. It is almost too hot to touch. The unit is getting old, but has been working admirably to date.

I have had too many problems with the HP Pavilion DV6000 laptop

Overall
Rated 1 out of 5

I was happy with the HP Pavilion dv6000 laptop when I first purchased it two and a half years ago.  The only complaint I had about it right of the bat was that it would get very very hot.  We bought a cooling pad for the laptop to sit on top of to prevent it from overheating.  It has never overheated, but oftentimes it gets so hot that I wouldn't be able to sit it directly on my lap if we didn't have that cooling pad.

We always used the laptop with the AC adapter, so we never took advantage of the battery.  I am not too familiar with how well laptop batteries work (as this is our first laptop), but I know enough to be disappointed in our ours works.  After tw...

Hp Pavilion is cute and easy to use, but not built to last

Overall
Rated 3 out of 5

First bought the Hp Pavilion lap top about a year ago for about 800 dollars the the now extinct circuit city.  I was very excited and happy.  This would be my second laptop in my life time.  It is sleek, has a webcam and for some reason comes with a remote.  I used the webcam to talk to my husband while he was deployed to iraq, and my husband did the same. ( he bought and hp pavilion the same time i bought one)  Sadly, I find more problems with the laptop in the short time I have owned it, than good things. First, the power cord gave out within 6 months.  Luckily, the laptop was still udner warranty, and i recieved the 90 dollar  power cord in the mail with...

Fantastic HP Pavilion laptop, despite Vista.

Overall
Rated 4 out of 5

This was my first laptop, which I am still using (although I have recently bought a new one because this one is wearing out).  I've had this one for almost three years.  I got it on sale because it was loaded with the Edsel of technology, Vista.  Vista is everything you've heard and more so I won't go into reviewing that part of it.  The laptop itself is much better than I expected; however there are some issues. #1--the Quick Play nonsense. That thing is beyond irritating. I never use it, and when I accidentally hit the Quick Play touch menu on the top of the keyboard it takes forever to get it to stop playing.  (On newer HP's I've seen, they've removed this feature...

hp laptops aren't longlasting

Overall
Rated 2 out of 5

bought my HP pavillion dv6000 3 years ago.  within the first 6 months the letter j kept coming off.  start of second year letter s followed with letter d next.  i had a hard time putting the letters back again and again so just had to make do without the letter pads.  start of the 3rd year it completely blanked out.  not a cursor in sight.  battery still has life...i am a very meticulous and careful user but it didn't work.  my niece's HP laptop (forgot what series but newer series) had its letter pad detached with the 5th month. good thing it gave up its ghost before the warranty expired and the company fixed it after---4 months!

never again will i buy an HP. they may be selling it a bit cheaper than the rest of the other brands but if it doesn't last what is the use of your hard earned money----

what a waste!

Compaq Presario V6000 is just an above average machine

Overall
Rated 4 out of 5

The Compaq Presario V6000 laptop is my first laptop. I have used serveral other laptops, and this machine I can say is just an about average machine. I brought the laptop in 2006 as a giftto myself;for all the hard work I did the years past. I feel this laptop is good for college students. The best thing about HP is that while ordering my laptop online  I was able to design my laptop just the way I wanted. the price was so cheapuntil i thought it was impossible. I can say I guess it was cheap because i purchasedit through my jobs website. While researching on other companies, all the extras that Hewlett Packard was giving me, they had the better deal.

As far as the customer s...

amazing white desing

Overall
Rated 4 out of 5

The dv600 is an amazing laptop, with 15.4 '''widescreen .

This desing is full of details , is the same that seen with releases like  dv2000 , dv4000, but still greate.

Advantages:

Good performance, with a AMD TURION 64  X2 DUAL CORE. Is fantastic for play games, graphic works, and any anything you need to do with tour laptop.

Design, just amazing and fashion look, with good style and  solid feeling, like a real machine, not a toy,.

One of the most amazing things about this laptop is the fingerprint recognition system, pretty cool ,and usefull for people that always forget the passwords.

Affordable, Lightweight Laptop with Tons of Memory, Battery Life

Overall
Rated 5 out of 5

Here's an affordable, easy to use laptop that costs less than 800 bucks, and provides excellent value for the price. My wife and I use it for a variety of purposes, including graphic design, and are very happy with it.I'm not sure if our laptop is more souped-up than the basic model (specs listed below), but we have 3 gigs of memory on our machine. It's pretty durn fast, putting my PC to shame. There are a bunch of programs that come pre-installed, so you have the option of keeping the ones you want to use and removing the ones you don't need. It comes with Windows Vista installed (you have to pay an extra few hundred if you want to install XP instead).Another thing that we really like about...

Does what it needs to do but has had some issues

Overall
Rated 3 out of 5

I bought this computer for graduate school and use it every day. I did not really want VISTA but it came with it. I had problems with it a few months ago and took it to the store where I bought it. It was not turning on when it was supposed to. The store fixed the problem very quickly and it has been fine since. Today I actually got a message that said this computer can be sent back to HP for repairs for that problem. I am glad I had it fixed before because now it would require not having my computer for 2 weeks. Overall, this computer is what I wanted. It is bigger than most of my friend's laptops but I wanted the bigger screen. It does take up my entire computer bag and is heavier to tote around. Battery life has been good but I have it plugged in a lot. I have a wireless set up in my home and it takes a little bit to connect when I open it.

Good computer for a fair price

Overall
Rated 4 out of 5

My old laptop died on me in the middle of class one day, and this is the new one I picked out. Since I am in a graduate program, I take a lot of notes on my computer and need to be able to manipulate and store them easily. This computer had all the memory and space I needed in order to do that, while it still had a large enough hard drive to account for all of my music and games. The 2 gigs of RAM was a lot for the price at the time I bought it. Labeled as an "entertainment computer," this one does make it very easy and convenient to control many aspects of music and movies directly from the keyboard without having to switch between windows constantly. The built in web-cam is also a plus. My...

Love It

Overall
Rated 5 out of 5

This computer is great.  I really feel it has the speed and capability for everyday use.  I really dont see a downfall in this laptop yet.  I have had it now for about five months and I take it to work all the time.  The HP Pavillion laptop is a good economical choice for the savvy computer person.  I feel I really made a good decision purchasing this laptop by not spending too much money and getting a great computer.

Loved it-- When it worked.

Overall
Rated 3 out of 5

I absolutely loved this when it worked.  I bought it for school, with a one year warrenty, and it worked great for a couple of months.  When it crashed, the tech support was terrible.  I had a difficult time understanding them, and when I shipped my lap top back to them they returned it to the wrong house.  Computer crashed a final time one month after my warrenty expired, and I found out it was a faulty motherboard (apparently 1 in 7 have one).  Replaced the motherboard my self for a hefty fee, but now it runs great again.  So beware of problems, and make sure you take advatage of your warrenty!

Love this laptop! Great price! Having 2GB memory rocks!

Overall
Rated 5 out of 5

My Dell laptop had a major harddrive failure so a couple weekends ago my husband and I went shopping to find me a new one. We looked at all the different brands and they all seemed to come up short on harddrive space, memory or add ons except for the HP DV6000. I wasn't going to settle for less than 2GB of memory and had to have at least a 140 GB harddrive and the DV6000 had it. On top of that it has the built in webcam which I wanted so that I could chat with family and friends without always looking for my cam.

We got such a great deal on these ($749 + $50 mail in rebate) that we bought 2 of them!! My husband would have been getting a new one in a few months anyway so we just went ahead and got it now. We both couldn't be happier! =)
