Good unit, but overpriced

By

Comments about HP ENVY TouchSmart 4 Laptop:

A huge change from Windows XP and Windows 7 to Windows 8.1. Much of the 'junk' on the desktop is just that: junk. Kinda wish I'd stayed with 7, but that's not related to the laptop.
Startup/restarts are very fast. The Tb hard drive is huge; much larger than I'll EVER use. The 2.4 Ghz i7 processor is super-fast compared to what I'm used to, and the 8Gb of ram makes web surfing faster, too.
I particularly like the Swipe feature. Once your login and password is inserted, just swipe your fingertip across the slot, and you're logged in. No user names or complex passwords to remember. This allows much faster log-ins, too. Normally, it takes 2 swipes to read, though.
The touch screen is nice to have for quick zooms, but I don't think it's worth the extra cost. Smartphone or iPad users should feel at home with this, but having neither, I consider the feature a gimmick. I'm much faster (and feel more at home) using a mouse in lieu of picking items with my fingertip on the screen; and I almost NEVER use the touch pad.
The back-lit keyboard is a major plus for using the laptop in low light environments.
One minor drawback on the keyboard are the cursor keys. The left and right keys are normal size, but the vertical keys are only half-size. After one month, I still have not become accustomed to the smaller keys.
A more significant design flaw is the AC adapter plug. The right-angle plug can easily hang on the side of the user's leg & pull out. I wish it plugged straight in or was located on the back of the unit.
The bottom of the unit gets quite warm on the left side. The user should either wear jeans or place something (a towel or similar) on the thigh for greater comfort.

Great laptop

Comments about HP ENVY TouchSmart 4 Laptop:

I love it. It is well built. It was at a good price center. I like the back-lit keyboard. It is pretty speedy and the battery life is a lot better because of the fact that it doesn't have an optical drive. The touchscreen is efficient and it does help. in fact, when I get on another person's laptop I end up tapping their screen.

Ease of Use
It is easy to use overall. However, the touchscreen could be better. I think this is probably because windows 8 is not that old and still needs to be fixed as it can be a little glitchy.

Battery Life
I love the battery life. It charges quickly and it doesn't drain quickly.

Support & Service
There hasn't been a problem with the computer so i don't know.

Speed/Performance
It is very speedy. I really wish every other computer was as fast as mine!

Design
The design is just very nice. It is aluminum making it very sharp. The back-lit keyboard makes it look a quality computer.

Durability
Looks durable. The hinge that hold the screen and the lower half of the laptop hasn't come lose. It hasn't really loosened up a little bit which has happened with plenty of my previous laptops.

Comments about HP ENVY TouchSmart 4 Laptop:

I am very satisfied with this laptop. it does everything I need it to do, and I got it for a very reasonable price. the built in Beats Audio is awesome!

Ease of Use
Windows 8 took some getting used to, but other than that this is a very easy laptop to use. the touchscreen feature is very convenient, it is much easier than using the mouse pad. also the keys will light up if you push the f5 key.

Battery Life
not amazing battery life, but it should last most of the day without having to recharge. it depends on how much you use it. If you are using it all day long, you may have to charge it twice

Support & Service
comes with Norton internet protection.

Speed/Performance
very fast due to the intel core processor. internet pops up immediately. very rarely do videos lag while streaming them online.

Design
very well designed. thin laptop that will fit in a backpack easily. easy to clean the screen.

Durability
Has proven to be durable so far. It has not gotten damaged and I carry it around with me in my back pack almost all the time.

Great Laptop

Comments about HP ENVY TouchSmart 4 Laptop:

This computer is a great thing to have. It has Dr. Dre Beats Audio installed for your personal entertainment. You can play Window games on the screen without having to use the keyboard. The keyboard itself have a very nice black keys with a light built in it. Just be very careful with the screen. It is made out of glass and it can be easily shatter or broken if you're not careful. This laptop is very good for people in school or for home use. I would definitely recommend this laptop.

Ease of Use
At first it can be a bit confusing to use, but after a while you get a hang of it. Considering that the Windows 8 is a whole lot different than Windows 7.

Battery Life
The battery life can last up to six hours.

Support & Service
The technical support is very useful and you should take advantage for it.

Speed/Performance
The performance is pretty good, but sometimes it would lag and it can be a bit slow depending what processor you have.

Design
The design is very nice and they installed where you could see the keyboard at night.

Durability
You have to be very careful with this laptop. If you don't have a protection plan when you accidentally dropped on the ground. The touchscreen can easily be shattered and it won't able to use it anymore.
