HP Deskjet All-In-One Printer

Len's one works great and mine often plays up: HP Deskjet F4180.

In our household we have 5 computers, 2 HP DeskJet F4180 All-in-one Printers, and a HP Photosmart printer. Len bought his printer a couple of years ago, and it has always worked well. When my printer started to take wads of paper, and kept jamming, we went with the second one. The printers are black with silver edging. The feed tray is at the bottom, in the middle. The buttons are on the top, at the left. I only use my printer for printing out coupons, printing pages from the computer, etc. I pass everything else over to Len. He scans papers on the HP DeskJet F4180 All-in-one printer, and then attaches them to emails for me. He also does a lot of copying on his one, because he is the Editor of our newsletter, where we live. His printer is in constant use, and works great for him. My one is temperamental, and sometimes prints what I want, other times it will print it tiny, in the corner of the paper. When I want it done perfectly I pass it over to Len. Len's printer I would give 5* and mine about a 2*. When both of them print, both the color and black and white are good quality, unless the ink is getting low. Performance Len's is great, and mine is not. Ease of Use Len is simple, and mine can be a pain.

I have gray hair because of this printer.

I have owned HP printers for work and home use. Usually I have great things to say, but I am ready to throw this thing out the window. When the printer works it prints just fine and the quality of the print is clear. It is not as crisp as I would want it to be for professional projects and documents, but for home and small business it does just fine. When I go to buy printer cartridges it doesn't break the bank like other ink I have had to buy for other machines. The ink doesn't last as long, but it is on the cheaper end on ink cartridges. The problem comes with the relationship it has with my computer. I have uprgraded the memory (twice) and am down to the bare bones just so I can run the printer program. I am fed up with messing with this thing. It takes alot to run this printer and it won't stay connected for my computer to recognize. I am constantly having to uninstall and reinstall. Currently my printer is not working and I am giving it the evil eye...

Basic

This baby has the integrated features that we've been waiting for a long long time for an affordable price in the date of its launch. Copy documents, bills, school articles right on your desk finally quick, easy and common. Dedicated buttons to color or black and white copies let you start copying without strings attached. Printing could be kind of tricky sometimes, you'll see why. The bad side is that this device always turn itself on when I turn on my surge protector. It would be good on a office, where everyday it is used, but this not my case. Some driver issues (like installing a new printer automatically from time) to time still bother me. Really noisy when it is turned on or starts a printing job. No memory card slot may be frustrating for some fellows specting to print photos right away. On the other hand, basic printing is pretty decent, black and white printings achive a good page per minute rate. While the HP cartdriges are expensive, it is not exclusevely for this particular model.

the hp deskjet f4180 is a very good value for the money

I have owned many printers and my HP Deskjet F4180 is a good printer for the money spent. The quality, both in black and white and color is good. I have also found that the ink cartridges last a little longer than those of other printers I have owned. The print quality is good no matter what type of paper is used. Envelope printing is also a nice feature of this printer. One feature I really like about my HP Deskjet F4180 is the Fast Economical printing feature. I have found that this feature save alot in printing ink and also allows for faster printing. Another feature I like is the Cancel Print option. On my other printers if I clicked on this option the page being printed would continue until done. On this printer the printing stops immediately. I feel the the copy feature of this printer is prety good. Both color and black and white copies are very acceptable. All in all I would recommend this printer to the PC user who does not demand the very highest of quality for the money.

Good printer

I've had this printer for about three years now. It has been through several moves and has been hooked up to two different computers so far. I think that this printer is of pretty high quality. The print-outs look professional and I haven't had any major errors with printing. Scanning is very easy on this all-in-one center. You download the all-in-one center once, then when you are ready to scan, you place the picture/paper in the scanner and close it and press scan. It then gives you a little picture showing you how it will look. This is nice because it shows you where you may need to move the picture, etc. I have had a couple times when the software needed to be re-installed, but I'm not sure if that was the printer's fault or just my computer's. I haven't used it as a copier yet, but I'm sure since scanning and printing work well, that copying would work well also. I do feel like ink gets used a little quicker with this printer than with others. The ink is pretty specific for this printer, which is kind of inconvenient.

The HP DeskJet F4180 is a good economical choice

The HP DeskJet F4180 All-in-One printer is a good printer for people who may not need the highest quality printer, but like to occasionally print out photographs or other items in acceptable quality. My printer came as part of a computer package combo at Best Buy. I really like the fact that the printer also doubles as a photocopier/scanner on those rare occasions that I've needed it. I have used it to print out copies of my marriage certificate when I was changing my name on all of my accounts, and also used it to scan some documents that I needed to email. The printer quality on this printer is fairly good - you can easily print photographs out onto glossy paper to hang in frames - however, be careful about touching the surface of the glossy paper shortly after printing, as I messed up several photos this way. Additionally, the ink seems to have a very short life span, but I have found this to be true of other printers I have owned as well.  One thing to note, when trying to scan items, if you're using Photoshop or some other Import method - the scanner is not TWAIN, it's WIA. I made this mistake for a while, thinking there was an issue with the drivers or software that came with the printer, but after some trial and error, discovered that it's simply a different scanner setting.

THE HP DESKJET F4180 I AN AVERAGE QUALITY PRINTER

4

I like the quality of both documents and photos on this printer but seems to have problems with keping the paper aligned which sometimes you get one page document printed partly on the top of 2 pages. This seems to happen most often when printing a multi page docoment. Occasionly I have had problems with its speed of printing. If you want a high speed printer this probaly not for you.

Decent printer for the price.

I purchased this printer about four years ago when I purchased my new computer.  I bought it mainly because I got a good deal on it.  I didn't research any printers at the time, which is very unlike me, but I have been pretty happy with this purchase.  It prints decent documents and even pictures, although I don't use it as a true photo printer.  It scans great.  I haven't had any issues with this feature.  And it's also a copier.  You have a choice of black or color copies, which is nice.  I did have a few issues awhile ago.  For some reason, it just stopped working.  Did absolutely nothing.  I thought I was going to have to get a new printer, but I was able to remove and then reinstall the printer a few times and eventually got it working again.  The only other issues I have had were when I stopped the printer in the middle of a job.  It really doesn't like that.  It gets frozen and the only way I could get it working again was to remove then reinstall the printer again.  The ink isn't the cheapest, but I don't think there are any printers with decent ink prices.  Overall, good printer.

I've Got My Money's Worth With Every Hewlett Packard I've Owned

4

Until this review I never gave it a second thought that in twenty-one years I have only had `3' printers, and they have all been Hewlett Packards. Apparently, the death rate for my Hewlett Packard printers has been death at seven years. I personally think that's fantastic! To me I am getting quite a bit of mileage from my Hewlett Packard printers; especially, since I do a lot of documents, many have lots of color in them, plus I download and print much, and photo printing I have done with my Hewletts.' My first printer was an HP Officejet Series 700 all-in-one (Scan, Fax, and Copy)**. **It was as I remember easy to set up because HP gave generous, numbered, and diagramed pictures instructing how to set the printer up ...... then, and now, with each HP printer I have always relied and never been disappointed with the ease of set up, thanks to the very good instructions! My second printer was an HP Officejet 4200 Series all-in-one again (Fax, Copy, Scan, Email). I loved the HP Officejet Manager icon: click on Copy, click on Email, click on Scan, click on Fax, click My Images, click Settings, click Help .... in essence it was a breeze to use and fun too. It died in 2003. Constant paper jams and just not being able to recognize paper in the tray was its' down-fall. I called Hewlett Packard in 2003 and they sent me a refurbished printer same series. Did I have to pay for it? I can not remember, but, I do believe it was very nominal, if I did. It too was very hard working and reliable. It stopped liking cartridges .... new or old, it could no longer tell the difference, and its' brain kept sending cartridge messages ..... two weeks ago it finally died. Enter a much less costlier, **HP Deskjet F4400 All-In-One** series. It's sleek and black in color. The others were gray, light-weight, but bulky.  I've mentioned the other HP printers here as a means of establishing the point that this is a darn good brand name product. Extremely reliable and durable, with excellent customer service, and tech support. If I was to rate the previous HP printers each would rate 5-Stars; but, I've just gotten this new **HP Deskjet F4400 All-In-One **and at present it rates 4-Stars only because, it does not have the faxing/email feature; but, note, it's a DESKJET Series, not, a OFFICEJET series ......  Least I forget, (it also rates 4-Stars because) even with limiting instructions this printer was not as easy to set up with my MAC! With the carefully followed instructions for installation it would not print even though a test copy and an aligning sheet printed...... documents, nah!!!! What to do? Again I followed the very simply trouble-shooting instructions: Uninstalled soft-wear, disconnected printer from Mac, and threw soft-wear into the trash. Connected printer to Mac, re-installed soft-wear; but, the second time around I surmised I'd shut-down, and restart Mac  ....... it worked!!!! The two brains are in sync! Hewlett Packard is a trusted product that I will remain loyal to because it's built to last (for me as I've mentioned, every seven years and death occurs). With most things built assembly-line fashion, I like the odds that a HP printer will be reliably assembled and probably not have to be recalled. **I always get my money's worth with a Hewlett Packard!**

Th HP F4180 is a great printer for home use

5

The HP F4180 printer is a very nice printer to have at home.  Not only does it print nicely, it will scan and copy.  I never realized how much a copier and scanner come in handy until I got this printer.  This printer will also print quality pictures.  Of course, the ink is expensive, but that is the same with all printers.
