I currently split my time between two homes and I found that I had a need for a printer at the 2nd place, but just to do light printing.  Nothing more than emails, online coupons, shipping labels.  Noting more than a page or two at a time.  I bought this Hewlett Packard/HP Deskjet D1600 based on one thing only- it was the cheapest one I could find!  Initially I found that printer served my light printing needs without a problem.  It's now been about 5 months and I'm starting to see more flaws.  First of all, it's noisy.  Not just a printer hummm...but a clankety, clap-trap sound!  Not a huge issue since I'm usually only printing a couple things but enough of a noise to need to be aware that I may disturb others in the room at the time of printing.  The print quality is ok.  And it doesn't seem to use excessive ink or need new cartridges unreasonably often  My biggest problem is that it functions inconsistantly.  What I mean is, when I Ctrl P, it's kind of a crap shoot whether or not the page will print completely or if the printer will just stop in the middle!  And when that happens, getting it to print again means unhooking everything and restarting then sending the project again.  For the things that I'm printing, its not a big deal but that would get old fast if I was using this for homework or work.

The HP 1600 color laser jet printer gives quality prints at an affordable price.  The 4 cartridges are monitored individually, so if you run low on one color, you don't have to buy all 4 to keep printing.  Just like other HP laser printers, the print quality is crisp and sharp, the colors are bright and true to life.  Laser printers do not print as fast as ink jet printers, but this printer does a good job of keeping up.  My children like to print pictures from the internet to add to papers and essays for school and the hp keeps up with thier ever changing tastes.  I run a business and need to print pictures of our puppies for flyers, business cards, pedigrees and receipts.  I have been very happy with the print quality of this printer.  My puppy pictures are bright and vivid, making advertising for them easier.  I recommend this printer to anyone that needs a good, quality, workhorse color printer.

The HP1600 is a wonderful laser color printer.  It produce awesome printed material in second.  The four ink cartridges monitor when to refill on front screeen.  Calibrate well in a timely matter.  The cabinet is small enough to be placed on a desk out of the way.

The HP laserjet 1600 is a great printer - for PCs.  I've had mine for 4 years and in that time have only had to put new toner in it twice.  With both my children printing color pages and pictures for school reports and my printing of color pictures for my home business, I have been very impressed with the longevity of the toner cartridges.  The print quality is great, clear and bright and once it gets started, print speed is pretty quick.  When you first start printing though, it does take some time to start - which always makes me wonder what went wrong; but once it starts, it only takes a few seconds to print each page.  You can put almost a whole ream of paper in the paper tray - which means less time spent looking for paper when you run out, or running out to buy more when you kid needs the project printed "right now."  The toner cartridges are a little pricey, but I have found some discount places on-line that have the same quality as the brand name cartridges at the store, just have to order them as soon as you start getting low so you don't run out.  And it won't run off of my MacBook - I am still looking for a printer driver that will work for that.  All in all, a great printer.
