HOUSE M.D. —

I have never been into most hospital shows.  I never liked ER, never got into Grey's Anatomy, and completely passed on General Hospital and the like.  The only hospital show I ever watched was Scrubs, and let's face it, that's not about hospitals at all!  House is a show I saw randomly before and now I actually sit down and watch the reruns when I see them on.

House is about an eccentric doctor who manages to find the cures for his many interesting patients.  House is like Monk for hospitals!  He's a smart-butt character who seems to notice things about his patients that no one else can see, and therefore even when he's insulting, mean and making cruel jokes - they need him.  Each episode, a new patient checks into the hospital with a new unidentifiable problem.  Sometimes the patient seems to have only a minor problem at first, but then it always turns out to be something much worse.  You get to watch House and his team as they try to diagnose the problem, argue about who is right, and ultimately save the day most of the time.

The character of House is the only one that matters.  I seriously don't even know any of the other character names!  Dr. House, played by Hugh Laurie, is the star and really the only one that matters.  The other characters fit in very well and interact with him very well, but ultimately I just see them as backgrounds.

The diseases and problems are random and weird, but interesting.  I don't even know if these diseases are real, but who cares because it's darn interesting!  The only thing I could live without is the realistic (and usually gross) symptoms.  I learned when to look away and just listen at those parts.  The best part about these diseases is they are not easy to diagnose.  That means that usually, just like Monk, you have to wait until the last few minutes to find out what is wrong and whether or not the person will survive.

In the end, House is also pretty funny!  Dr. House is so sarcastic that you won't believe the way he talks to his own patients.  If you heard him speak, at first you'd think he doesn't care about any of them.  However when you see how dedicated he is to curing them, you'll see he really does care... but he just doesn't care to let anyone know he cares!  I now watch House whenever I happen to see it on the guide, but I'm not usually looking for it.  You don't have to watch all the shows in order to enjoy it and I have only seen random shows in random order.  The only precaution I have is that House seems geared towards adults.  I don't think you'd want your kids to watch as they might start to worry about all these diseases!  It's rated TV-14.  Look for House reruns today and give it a shot, it's worth a watch every week or so.  Enjoy!!

Yep that's how I watch it, in reruns :) It's addicting but I dont get into the New episodes b/c I know eventually they'll be on reruns too!

I just started watching "House" reruns on the USA Network. The show is in heavy reruns on USA, often three shows per night -- and they're in HD! I agree with your review, too... well done.

I just watch it randomly when I see it. Thought about DVRing it... but I already DVR about a dozen shows :)

I DVR House and watch it later. It comes on at the same time has "The Mentalist." I think! They are moving House to Monday nights in January some time. This will be a better night for me to watch. I enjoyed your review very much! ~Krista Lynn

Yeah the first time I watched House I thought WHY would anyone watch this? But I've since seen a dozen episodes and I can see why it is interesting :-D As long as you understand most the diseases are VERY rare.

Last night before I wrote this review was just crazy. He had a drawf patient and made so many rude and mean jokes that I could never imagine a doctore talking to a patient like that - but in the end he still wants the girl to live so he must be a good guy at heart :)

Oh, I loved General Hospital during my college years! I watched this show one time with my best friend and wasn't able to sleep all night. I think it is a show I have to stay away from. ~Gigi

Hugh Laurie (House) is indeed a comic genius; I love his sense of timing and his ability to cover up his good side with that edgy, callous facade. Good review!

This is one of my favorite shows. I absolutely LOVE the sarcasm from Hugh Laurie. He does it so effortlessly.
