Most HelpfulTax filing is a pain and the process becomes even more complicated when you have multiple sources of income, investment property, etc. Some do not mind using the old- fashioned method of filling out forms and sending them to the IRS via snail mail. Others do not like the slowness of this method and...
review »Several years ago, I took an H & R Block Tax Course. These courses are taught by a very qualified tax preparer of H & R Block. I learned A LOT in the course and did well. I aced my "finals", etc.
Now, after you pass the class, you have the option of applying to work for H & R Block during the peak tax season. Although I had gotten good grades, there was NO WAY I was ready to prepare anyone's taxes yet. I had only taken one class! However, there were several other members of my class that did apply and were hired on. This SHOCKED ME, because I didn't feel any of us were truly ready...
review »As tax time approaches many people will be flooding to places like H&R Block to get their taxes done. I would like to caution anyone going to these places. Sure, they're convenient and you can even get your money early, but you could be throwing good money after bad by using them.
Did you know that the majority of H&R Block employees have only a weekend of training to become your tax preparer? Granted there are some who do this year after year as their part-time job, but think about it; do you want someone with so little training to be your connection to the IRS?
I have a personal experience to share...
review »Go to H&R block if you didn't have them prepare your taxes last year. They will do a second look and there is a possibility your first tax preparer did not get you your maximum refund.
They also have very experienced tax pros. the prices are in the same range as what you would pay another tax company, but we offer a guarantee with every return we do. And we are open year round. Can you find your tax guy after april 15th?
For many years H&R Block has enjoyed a well deserved reputation as the nations outstanding leader in tax preparation. Unfortunately for both Block and its consumers that reputation has become a bit tarnished.
Having prepared taxes for over twenty five years and enjoying the status of being one of the few preparers hired "off the street" by Block (I know what I am doing with out the software), I feel confident in being able to comment on them. At one time preparers were either rigorously trained and tested or has proven expertise in the preparation of taxes. That seems to no longer be the...
review »I recently went on line to do my sister and her her husbands income tax return for them. I consider myself computer savy and knowledge when using online services. I have never in my life had to spend three hours on the phone trying to straighten out a mistake their system made. Unfortunately we thought they would be getting their return in 5 to 7 days and due to this glich as they called it, it will now be 5 to 7 weeks. They made no effort to remedy this, they just continue to repeat like a broken record how sorry they were and they were working on the issue. H&R Blocks own IT department...
review »I went to the office, I liked "the guy" very much, but felt robbed. I paid $240 for a joint return. And my case couldn't be simpler - one W-2 and one sale of shares.
BTW, "the guy" also said he's a big believer in filing your own taxes, so next year I'm on my own. As I always was, btw, before I moved to US where everybody's making a big deal out of taxes.
I guess that's due to companies like HR block who advertise and push their products so much and make you feel you're uncapable of doing what your government thinks is your job - filing you taxes.
I have used the H&R Block federal free file for the last two years. It is extremely easy to use and I have never had a problem with them. The IRS always gets and accepts my tax return and my money gets deposited into my account in a very timely manor. I even pay the 29.95$ to file my state taxes with them because i think that 30$ to file both state and federal is a good deal.
so if you don't itemize your taxes and don't have stocks or bonds or anything like that go for the H&R Block free file. and if you do have that stuff go to H&R block store, they are great there too.
