Most HelpfulOur guinea pigs were losing hair and had scabs on their bodies, they had mites. The area vets wants $75 per pig (we had 3) to treat, and they may require 2 treatments each. We love our little pigs but that seemed excessive.
Hours of on-line research gave may potential home remedies, the only item we could find locally was Bag Balm which can be found at Walgreens. This is like vaseline, sticks to everything, but it really worked. We covered them completely in this goop, put rubber roofing in the cage instead of bedding and let the mites suffocate. The goop rubbed off over time,...
read full review »The guinea pig is a wonderful pet. I now only have one at the moment. He is quite new to me. I have only had him for about 6 months. My other piglet passed away a year ago after 7 long wonderful years with him he was my baby. I thought I could never go on but this new guy has kidnapped my heart. The guinea pig is a easy pet for people who want a small pet. They can be a bit messy. But once you have one you will see you will get bitten by the love bug as well as me. They are very cute and cuddly. They are very smart too! After they know your routine they will cry for dinner every time they hear...
read full review »You will find that owning guinnea pigs is not so true, they really own you. They are very good pets to have if you do not have the room for cats or dogs. They love it when you talk to them, and if you don't they sure let you know about it.
they can get quite spoiled with there treats, and food. They won't eat it if is not up to "par". They are very calming animals to have when you are stressed, or just having a bad day. There expressions can be quite comical, and for female guinnea's they can be the Diva's.
Wouldn't trade my 2 girls for anything, (besides, if did my son and hubby would fight me...
read full review »My 3 year old daughter wanted a pet, at first I didn't know what to get her but than I did some research online because I heard that a guinea pig is a great pet for especially younger kids/toddler. I found one at a pet store and bought it for her, it's been a week now since we have this guinea pig and it's great. She loves it, she keeps telling me thank you mommy and really like my new pet. She named it Winnie, lol. The guinea pig is easy to clean after because they usally pee and poop in the same area, easy to brush their furs, they are a pretty quite, most importantly they don't bit unless provoked....
read full review »We got 2 Guinea pigs for my daughters to teach them responsibility, and they have done just that. They are fun and easy pets, especially for kids that may not be ready for bigger pets. They need a pretty good amount of room, and their bedding needs to be freshened often. They love many fruits and vegetables, which my kids love to feed them. When they are happy to see you, they will "popcorn" by jumping straight up into the air. The make a wide variety of noises, such as purring, squeaking, and shrieking. They communicate with their cage buddies all the time, which is really funny to...
read full review »I love guinea pigs. I have fifteen guinea pigs right now. They are great pets. They don't bite like other pocket pets. They will learn to recognize you and everytime you walk in to the room they will squeel with excitement! It is so cute to hear them all squeek at once. They are low cost pets. They cost much less to maintain than a dog. They eat guinea pig pellets and hay. They also need some fresh fruits or vegetables everyday to maintain their vitamin C levels. They can not produce their own vitamin C so they need it in the form of some fresh fruits or vegatables or a supplement. They can eat...
read full review »If you are looking for a small pet that is easy to care for and usually lives a number of years, then try guinea pigs. They are very easy to care for, and with proper cage cleaning and occasional baths, they don't smell. They love most vegetables and some fruits that humans normally eat, so no special foods are needed except pellets and timothy hay, which are inexpensive. There is a lot of information about the foods that guinea pigs can and can't have, so you're not left in the dark about nutrition for them. It's best to put at least two guinea pigs (both of the same sex or you'll have...
read full review »I have two guinea pigs and love them. There is only one thing that becomes kind of annoying. Their cage can have a smell if not cleaned on a very regular basis. I had one who died and had to replace it because they do not live long without a companion. They generally get along with new ones very easily, especially if they are both females. Mine are both females and get along really well. They are a calm animal, and some classify them as boring. They do not do alot but are very frendly. I have never had a problem with them as far as biting or medical problems. The one I had was...
