Guinea Pigs are the precious little fuzzy members of the family that we all know and love.  They are caring and love attention, and most importantly food.  But with owning a Guinea Pig you must know how to properly care for them.

i love Guinea Pigs
I get a guinea pig, then what do I need to know about them.
I know that guinea pigs are shy animals. I also know that they are prey animals and that if you approach a guinea pig from above they will think that you're a predator. Another thing that I know is that hay helps to keep their...

Our guinea pigs were losing hair and had scabs on their bodies, they had mites.   The area vets wants $75 per pig (we had 3) to treat, and they may require 2 treatments each.  We love our little pigs but that seemed excessive.

Hours of on-line research gave may potential home remedies, the only item we could find locally was Bag Balm which can be found at Walgreens.  This is like vaseline, sticks to everything, but it really worked.  We covered them completely in this goop, put rubber roofing in the cage instead of bedding and let the mites suffocate.  The goop rubbed off over time,...

My husband and I now have nine guinea pigs!  We never planned to have that many.  But they were all rescue (previously owned) and needed homes, and we have enough room and love for all of them.  I very highly recommend guinea pigs as pets for anyone who loves furry animals and are busy without a lot of time to care for them.  We give ours pellets and water when needed, and try to give them some carrot and/or spinach every day.  The cage cleaning is not a fun job but we only need to do ours once a week.  They are such sweet and cuddly little critters; they like to be held and petted, and some... read full review »

Guinea pigs have always been a part of my life and I can highly recommend them as a pet. Many people have had experiences with guinea pigs, probably mostly the type who live in a small cage and seem to have little or no personality. My advice is, get a young pig (preferably from a rescue, so many need homes!) and make sure you let him/her out for several hours a day. If you can "pig-proof" a room you can even let them be free range. I have always found that they will walk back into their cage when they need to use the restroom.

This roaming time develops their personality so much you would not...

The guinea pig is a wonderful pet. I now only have one at the moment. He is quite new to me. I have only had him for about 6 months.  My other piglet passed away a year ago after 7 long wonderful years with him he was my baby. I thought I could never go on but this new guy has kidnapped my heart. The guinea pig is a easy pet for people who want a small pet. They can be a bit messy. But once you have one you will see you will get bitten by the love bug as well as me. They are very cute and cuddly. They are very smart too! After they know your routine they will cry for dinner every time they hear...

You will find that owning guinnea pigs is not so true, they really own you. They are very good pets to have if you do not have the room for cats or dogs. They love it when you talk to them, and if you don't they sure let you know about it.

they can get quite spoiled with there treats, and food. They won't eat it if is not up to "par". They are very calming animals to have when you are stressed, or just having a bad day. There expressions can be quite comical, and for female guinnea's they can be the Diva's.

Wouldn't trade my 2 girls for anything, (besides, if  did my son and hubby would fight me...

I have a guinea pig and he is spoiled rotten!!  I open his cage when I get home from work and he has the run of the living room.  He is very affectionate and loves to groom my feet, LOL.  He knows his name and will come when he is called (when he wants too, that is).  He talks to me and when I talk to him he moves his mouth like he is trying to figure out how to talk like I do.  I love him so much!!!

I have had guinea pigs my whole life, they have always been one of my favorite pets to have. While in college I was unable to have one due to the dorms rules, but now that I am living in a house I was able to get one again. This particular one loves my cat, I can leave them running around in the same room and not be afraid to leave for a few minutes. They do call them a pig for a reason though, they love food!

One of the joys of international travel is the opportunity to experience different cultures, and to me, that always includes sampling the local elixirs and savoring the delicacies that make other cultures so intriguing. I particularly love being in Latin America, where I find no shortage of new and exciting flavors. In Ecuador, one of the most delicious taste treats is "cuy" --- or guinea pigs.

Guinea pigs are served in restaurants throughout the country, and if you visit the local markets in the highland towns of the Andes, you'll find an excellent selection of nicely plump fresh guinea pigs,...

My 3 year old daughter wanted a pet, at first I didn't know what to get her but than I did some research online because I heard that a guinea pig is a great pet for especially younger kids/toddler. I found one at a pet store and bought it for her, it's been a week now since we have this guinea pig and it's great. She loves it, she keeps telling me thank you mommy and really like my new pet. She named it Winnie, lol. The guinea pig is easy to clean after because they usally pee and poop in the same area, easy to brush their furs, they are a pretty quite, most importantly they don't bit unless provoked....

We got 2 Guinea pigs for my daughters to teach them responsibility, and they have done just that.  They are fun and easy pets, especially for kids that may not be ready for bigger pets.  They need a pretty good amount of room, and their bedding needs to be freshened often.  They love many fruits and vegetables, which my kids love to feed them.  When they are happy to see you, they will "popcorn" by jumping straight up into the air.  The make a wide variety of noises, such as purring, squeaking, and shrieking.  They communicate with their cage buddies all the time, which is really funny to...

I love guinea pigs. I have fifteen guinea pigs right now. They are great pets. They don't bite like other pocket pets. They will learn to recognize you and everytime you walk in to the room they will squeel with excitement! It is so cute to hear them all squeek at once. They are low cost pets. They cost much less to maintain than a dog. They eat guinea pig pellets and hay. They also need some fresh fruits or vegetables everyday to maintain their vitamin C levels. They can not produce their own vitamin C so they need it in the form of some fresh fruits or vegatables or a supplement. They can eat...

If you are looking for a small pet that is easy to care for and usually lives a number of years, then try guinea pigs.  They are very easy to care for, and with proper cage cleaning and occasional baths, they don't smell.  They love most vegetables and some fruits that humans normally eat, so no special foods are needed except pellets and timothy hay, which are inexpensive.  There is a lot of information about the foods that guinea pigs can and can't have, so you're not left in the dark about nutrition for them.   It's best to put at least two guinea pigs (both of the same sex or you'll have...

I have two guinea pigs and love them.  There is only one thing that becomes kind of annoying.  Their cage can have a smell if not cleaned on a very regular basis.  I had one who died and had to replace it because they do not live long without a companion.  They generally get along with new ones very easily, especially if they are both females.  Mine are both females and get along really well.  They are a calm animal, and some classify them as boring.  They do not do alot but are very frendly.  I have never had a problem with them as far as biting or medical problems.  The one I had was...
