I live in a really out-of-the-way corner of San Francisco - no real shopping, no grocery stores, nothing to really walk to, except a mall. And not even a good mall. No restaurants, except for the mall's Olive Garden and Chevy's. I've written before about my frustration with how few restaurants deliver to my neighborhood. I've also written about a bad experience with a restaurant delivery service that overcharges and takes forever to deliver.

I believe in equal time, so it's high time I sang the praises of GrubHub.com

GrubHub.com is a website where people in several cities can type in their street addresses, and get a whole list of restaurants that are willing to deliver to them. There's no charge for using GrubHub, and the food is delivered directly fromt he restaurant, not picked up by a delivery service, left to sit around ina  car while other pick-ups are made, and delivered, hours later, freezing cold.

Using Grubhub, I've discovered a few really good restaurants that actually deliver to my orphaned corner of San Francisco. One of them has become a real favorite - they have really reasonable prices, great food, and excellent service - never taking more than 30 minutes to deliver food that is piping hot. Without GrubHub, I never would have known about them. Iuse dot know of only 4 places that would deliver to my place. Now I know about 47 places!

It's not difficult for me to sing the praises of this site. It's easy to use, free of charge, and tremendously useful. There's nothing not to love about it. You can even set up a virtual "menu drawer" to keep the menus of your favorite places, and keep track of previous orders. No more of that "What was the name of that awful pizza place we said we'd never order from again????"  You can also write reviews of the restaurants listed, and read consumer reviews before choosing a place to order from.

GrubHub.com rocks.

I'm still suffering the effects of going cold turkey from 24-hour NYC. Consider this: I moved from NYC to Wellington, New Zealand...where nothing is open past 8pm and delivery is an almost unheard of concept. At least now in San Fran I can get *some* stuff!

Huh - should have checked how wide their service was. I'm shocked SF made it in before L.A. I do think they're pretty new, though. I'm just psyched to know about about a Thai restaurant that will actually deliver to the armpit of SF!

I'm from NYC, and still can't get past the idea that one can't get just about anything and everything delivered to their doorstep with one phonecall. I live cloer to the Daly City border than I do to Downtown SF, so we really are in nowhere land.

I got all excited for NOTHING! This sounds like a really great service, so I went straight to the site to see what they would have to say about Los Angeles - there are TONS of places here that deliver. Unfortunately they only serve SF in CA, then Chicago, Boston, and NYC "coming soon" - what a shame. I guess they are just getting started. Great concept though, and I'll be waiting for it to make its way south...Thanks!

Sounds like a nice site. Let me tell you though, if you are feeling isolated from quality dining living in Frisco, you should try Bellingham, "the city of subdued excitment". To get fine dining we have to cross the border to another country.

Thanks for the tip! They need to expand but when they do it will be a great help for everyone. ;)
