Groomax Cat Self-Cleaning Slicker Brush —

It's been a year since we lost our cat, Naima, to a sudden fatal illness.  We were ready to adopt again, but before we went to the shelter to retrieve the newest member of our family, we first stopped by Petco to pick up some supplies.  In the pet grooming aisle, there were several brushes to choose from, but I ultimately selected the Groomax Cat Self-Cleaning Slicker Brush for our short-haired tortie, Persia.

What I like about the Groomax Cat Brush:

  • The soft grip handle is made of cushy, non-slip rubber and is easy to hold. I get a sure grip and can groom Persia without hand or wrist fatigue.
  • The Groomax tools are developed with professional groomers so that gives me confidence I have a well designed product.
  • It's easy to clean the brush with a simple button that pushes the pet hair forward so you can collect it in a bunch and toss. No more picking out pieces of fur between each brush tip.

What Persia loves about the Groomax Cat Brush:

  • Rounded nylon pins on the tips of the bristles make brushing safe and comfortable. It doesn't scrape her skin or make her sore.
  • It feels good! (Persia purrrrs when I brush her--she looks forward to our daily sessions)

What gives me pause about the Groomax Slicker Brush:

While it removes a decent amount of hair, there are times when the dead hair ends up sitting on her fur rather than being gathered into the brush.  I think it's because the prongs are so long and there is so much space between each bristle that her short hair doesn't catch into the brush as well as it should.

Overall Thoughts about the Groomax Cat Self-Cleaning Slicker Brush

While this brush has many positive qualities, I think it may be more suitable for longer-haired felines.  I'll keep it and use it, but it won't take the place of a fine-toothed comb for really getting the dead hair that can accumulate in the undercoat.

I'm glad you are enjoying Persia and how sweet of you to be mindful of your niece's allergies. I would love to have a cat but my allergies are so bad I can't handle the cat hair or the dust sediment from the litter. I'll just have to enjoy yours and Tunefulgal's kitties ;+) My brother and his wife have about 8 cats and about 20 strays that roam around their property so I am always around cats but then the sneezing fits come and the eyes begin to water and I have to get out of there.

Persia has really made herself at home. It feels like she's always been with us (even though it's only been a month!) I brush her every day and also vacuum every day to keep the fur to a minimum. My niece has allergies so I have to be especially vigilant when I know she's coming over. :)

I adopted a kitten that looked just like Persia and I named her Liberty. She got out of my house one day and got lost in the woods and never came home. I was heart broken ;+( I have used a brush like this or similar to this on my SIL's cats. I have bad cat dander allergies so they have to keep the cats well groomed to alleviate some of my allergies. I'm so happy to hear you have a new kitty ;+)

Wow, it's already been a year? I remember you telling us when it happened. I have a short hair cat and a Himalayan...who requires daily brushing. It seems that no matter how much I brush him, he still gets mats!
Great review. (And congrats on the new kitty!!)
