Gridiron Gang —

I recently saw this movie on the Encore channel.  I had heard it was supposed to be pretty good.  I turned it on to watch while I was making dinner.  Needless to say, dinner was late that night, as once I started watching, I stop making dinner.

The movie is about a juvenile detention center counselor who wants to use football to give his detainees some self-esteem.  After only three weeks of practice the 'gang' is humiliated in their first football game and the director wants to pull the plug on the project.

Meanwhile the counselor, played by The Rock, is struggling with his own issues, due to a verbally abusive father, and the fact that his mother is dying.

I don't want to go any further with the story as it will ruin the movie for you, but your heart will touched as you watch the kids grow to trust one and other and gain faith in themselves.

If you like a heartwarming story, give it a try.  I laughed and I cried and I have been watching for it to play again.  There is some voilence and mature themes as the movie does deal with gang activity, so I would advise caution if watching as a family.
