Greg Mortenson was building schools in Pakistan before the rise of the Taliban. Schools allowed people a way to a better life through education. Greg reminds us that all people have the same basic needs. When those needs aren't met, we look for ways to meet them. That can make people vulnerable to "opportunities" offered by regimes like the Taliban. The best way to fight terrorism is to fight poverty. Three Cups of Tea is also Greg's personal and unlikely story of how he began doing what he does. He got lost on the way down from an unsuccessful attempt at K2 and stumbled into the village that would change the course of his life. The people there didn't have much, but they willingly shared everything with him. When he realized the children studied outdoors and didn't even have a teacher every day, he vowed to build a school. And that's what he's been doing ever since.
