For more than a hundred years, the Green Giant Company hasn't just been getting older, it's been getting better too.  Though it is now owned by General Mills, the Green Giant trademark is still like "sterling" on silver -- probably the best there is in frozen vegetables.  Instead of resting on their laurels, Green Giant has come up with a modern convenient way to cook up a hot veggie dish for supper -- Green Giant Valley Fresh Steamers.  It doesn't get easier than this -- just stick the bag in the microwave and heat according to instructions.

Valley Fresh Steamers cost between $2 and $3 for a 12-oz. package.  If this is part of a balanced dinner, you can get about four servings out of a package.  The product comes in various flavors:  Broccoli and Cheese Sauce; Sugar Sweet Corn and Butter Sauce; Broccoli, Carrots, Cauliflower and Cheese Sauce; Roasted Red Potatoes, Green Beans and Rosemary Butter Sauce; Cheesy Rice and Broccoli and Asian Style Medley.  Also featured are these less fancy but just as good varieties:  Broccoli Cuts, Chopped Broccoli, Cut Green Beans, Extra Sweet Niblets Corn, Niblets Corn, Mixed Vegetables and Sweet Peas.  I chose Niblets Corn, which was absolutely delicious.

STATS:

One half cup cooked Valley Fresh Steamers Niblets Corn is considered to be a single serving which contains 90 calories with 5 calories from fat.  There are 1 gram Total Fat, zero each Saturated and Trans Fats, zero each Cholesterol and Sodium, 19 grams Total Carbs, 2 grams Dietary Fiber, 4 grams Sugars, 2 grams Protein and 6% (D.V.) Vitamin C.

TASTE TIP:

Green Giant Valley Fresh Steamer Niblets Corn is the perfect complement to a summer dinner of roast chicken, red-skinned potato salad and fresh tomatoes.  The fresh corn on the cob out there can't hold a candle to Green Giant.

I love these things--so easy and no pots to clean up afterward!
