Too Thick For Our Preference

3

We started using cloth diapers when our daughter reached about 8-12 pounds. We started out using prefolds with snappis and Thirsties covers. I had these chinese prefolds and a Gerber prefold that is thinner and has a gauzier weight to it. I never wound up using the chinese prefolds for their given purpose. They were just way too thick to fit on a young baby. The bulk was too much and the fabric was kind of rough. They also shrunk up when washed so that even on a tiny bum they were hard to wrap around correctly. The other prefolds I had were bigger and a little stretchy, so they worked much better. I did, however, use the chinese prefolds as a diaper-pad protector while I changed diapers. I would put a prefold under my daughter's bottom while changing a diaper because she usually peed right after I took her old diaper off. If she wet or soiled the prefold I could toss that into the diaper bin instead of the entire changing table pad. Since they are so thick they worked great for this!

Beyond good... outstanding

It is surely a miracle of science that such a little piece of cloth can soak up such great quantities of liquid. As proof I offer this story, which has nothing to do with their use as cloth diapers: My husband was painting our bedroom green and knocked over a gallon of green paint from the ladder onto white carpet. Not good. Within minutes all of our normal rags were soaking up paint. We stared at the huge puddle and scratched our heads, and finally I said, "Use the diaper prefolds." We have a ton, and I figured that even if he used all of them and we had to throw them away, it would still be cheaper to buy all new prefolds than new carpet. So he did, and an hour later the stain was gone. Two hours later, the paint had completely washed out of the prefolds. Everything was normal again. My prefolds had saved the carpet. I've used these prefolds for three years now. Some are fraying, and these go straight into the rag pile. They have been through two heavy-wetting boys, countless washes and dryer cycles. I use them as inserts into pocket diapers and in covers. I would not use anything else. If they can clean up green paint, they can certainly hold whatever a baby grunts their way.

great absorbancy

I absolutly love these prefolds, we use a combo between Indian and Chinese cloth and have found both to be great. The Chinese prefolds are soft on babies bum and super adsorbent. If you are going to use these prefolds as diapers just make sure and do NOT use any powers or other creams as they will ruin the absorbentness of the diaper. If your little one has a diaper rash and you must use a cream go with the California diaper rash cream it is all natural and safe for cloth diapers, smells great too. Normally after using it i just soak the diapers a little longer or do an extra rinse cycle in the wash and we've had no problems. There are so many perks to using cloth diapers: less landfill waste, cheaper, better for sensitiv baby bums, and most children do potty train earlier because the do not like the feeling of a wet diaper. All perks that make cloth diapering very worth it to me and my husband. More people should consider it a viable option when deciding how to diaper their children.

wonderful prefold diaper!

We love our prefolds! Regardless of what type of cloth diaper you prefer, everyone needs a dozen or so prefolds to keep on hand. We use ours as burp cloths, pee-catchers during baby's naked time, cleaning, mopping up spills, and (of course) diapers. They are really excellent for prefolds because they don't pill, are very absorbent and are nice and cozy against baby's skin.  I am a giant fan of cloth diapering because it means that there is less garbage being created, baby learns what it feels like to be wet (and will actually potty train 6-12 months earlier because of it) and there is even research that points to disposable diapers being linked to male infertility in later life.  Why would you put something against your baby's skin that will lead to such an issue later in life?  You can get the prefolds in different sizes so as the baby grows you can still have a comfy bum covering/pee catching diapering experience.
