Not as Good as Real Jelly Beans

3

We were willing to give these Great Value jelly beans a try, since they are a good bit cheaper than the regular name-brand jelly beans. We found them on sale after a holiday, and we were excited to try them. But we were quite disappointed in them. Although the package seemed to be sealed well and had not yet expired, they simply did not taste very good. They were far too chewy, and they did not taste very fresh at all. On top of that, the flavors were a little bit off. They simply did not taste like a very good version of the flavor that they were supposed to be. Although our children will eat just about anything, they did not enjoy these jelly beans either. Although they are cheaper than other brands, we will not be buying these Great Value jelly beans again. After a bad experience, we would rather pay a little bit more for name-brand jelly beans that at least taste good and fresh. I would not recommend these Great Value jelly beans for others to try.

Waxy and sweet

These are definitely not the best quality jelly beans. They are soft and sugary and don't really have a distinct flavor other than sweet, and they seem kind of waxy. They do not have the same juicyness that the brand name ones do. They are very cheap though, and kids are probably fine with the over sweetness so they might be a good choice for a large event for kids on a budget.

Just okay

As sad as I am to say this, Great Value Brand Jelly Beans are not my favorite. To be honest, they are kind of sub-par. There isn't anything about them that stands out in any special way. The flavor of them is more dominantly a flavor of pure sugar rather than a taste of fruit flavor. There is however a light essence of flavor that is fruit based in them. It's just the the actual sugar taste is so overpowering. Not all jelly beans are created equal and this particular brand - although usually one of my favorites, has disappointed me with the jelly beans. They definitely need a stronger fruit taste. Overall, the Great Value Brand Jelly Beans are just okay. I wouldn't recommend them though.

Colorful, Tasty And Inexpensive

Packaged in a ten ounce bag, the Great Value Jelly Beans are tasty, colorful and chewy. They cost less than name brand jelly beans but they are only sold at Wal Mart; Great Value is their in-house brand. They have a couple of different sized bags that you can get by my local store only stocks the ten ounce bags. I started buying these when I needed jelly beans to decorate a large sheet cake; during the Easter season you can find a ton of different jelly beans but at other times during the year your choices are limited. I didn't want to get the Jelly Belly jelly beans because I didn't need gourmet candy so I opted to try these out and I am glad that I did. I used them on the cake and the colors were great; they didn't bleed into the frosting and it helped me keep an all-edible format. The flavor is above average but the cherry and orange are the ones that have the best taste. Be sure to check the back of the bag for the "best by" date; I got a bag that was a couple months past the expiration date and they were hard and didn't have as strong of a flavoring to them as the ones that were fresh. The ten ounce bags have seven servings to them; one serving contains 150 calories, 37 grams of carbohydrates and no protein. They are fat free but 35 of the 37 grams of carbohydrates are from sugar so this is an empty snack.

classic jelly beans, if you like that sort of thing

I've never really been into classic "old school" jelly beans, but that said if you do like them that's exactly what these are. They're not as good as Brach's, but they're OK. For me, "new school" jellybeans like Jelly Belly have kind of rendered these obsolete. They're better tasting and have a consistency than old fashioned ones.

Great Value jelly beans are only ones I will eat.

I do not like any other brand of jelly beans; Great Value has the taste of each color bean as it should be.  The main color everyone wants to change is green.  Green jelly beans are supposed to be lime flavor; with all the other brands, you get everything from sour apple to watermelon.  But then of course, the other colors are different too. I think the reason this is so important is I grew up with these flavors; now it is important that the flavors remain the same. Thank you, Great Value.
