    Good Applesauce

Comments about Great Value - (Walmart) Unsweetened Applesauce:

We use applesauce a lot, for ourselves as well as our young children. We have been very pleased with this Great Value applesauce. Especially for our children, we were looking for something that did not have a lot of added sugar and was overly sweet. Since this applesauce is unsweetened, it has proven itself to be healthy for them. We also like the taste of this product quite well, and our children also enjoy it a lot. Even if they are picky about other things, they will still eat this applesauce. The bottles have always been sealed well, and they taste fresh and good. The expiration dates are usually quite a while after we buy them in the store, and they stay fresh in the refrigerator for quite awhile after we open them. So all around, we have been pleased with the different aspects of this product, and it also comes at a lower price than other name-brand options. So we are sticking with this product.

Not my favorite applesauce but good.

Comments about Great Value - (Walmart) Unsweetened Applesauce:

I think that this applesauce is pretty good. It has a good flavor to it. I wouldn't buy it all the time, but every now and then I will find myself picking up a jar of this. I do like that it's unsweetened. I know some people don't like the taste of unsweetened, but I think that it's pretty good. I would rather go for an organic applesauce though. Even though this applesauce is labeled natural they still spray pesticides and chemicals on their fruit. I guess that I feel like I will choose this product to be healthier and then still put unhealthy stuff into my body. I understand why some people would buy this though. Saying that the taste and texture of this applesauce is still good. My kids and family like it when I have it in the house. I know these jars of applesauce are pretty inexpensive, so that is a plus. I'm pretty sure that I remember there being different size jars also, which is nice because you can get more for your money. All in all it's not too bad of an applesauce. It's just not my favorite. I would just rather go with something different.

    Doesn't need sugar

Comments about Great Value - (Walmart) Unsweetened Applesauce:

The very best thing about Great Value Unsweetened Applesauce is that it is delicious. I can honestly say that I don't miss the sugar in this product. It has a natural taste of pure apple without all the additives, preservatives or fillers allows me to enjoy a very natural and refreshing taste. It has less calories than the other non natural applesauce but, I can tell you honestly that is not the reason I enjoy this variety so much. It just truly tastes better. The fact that it just happens to be better for me is actually more of a bonus than a determining factor. It is amazingly enjoyable without all the bells and whistles. I will certainly continue enjoying this for as long as it is available for purchase.

A great dessert for diabetics is Unsweetened Applesauce.

Comments about Great Value - (Walmart) Unsweetened Applesauce:

I used to buy unsweetened applesauce in any of the supermarkets, but found it to be expensive. I then started buying it from Save - a Lot. I still had to buy the smaller jar.

A few months back I found the larger jar of Great Value Unsweetened Applesauce in Walmart. As I have to pay more for anything that is sugar free, or no sugar added, I was happy to at last, save money.

It tastes just as good as the brand name, and my husband enjoys it as a diabetic dessert. It lasts a long time, and I feel that we get our monies worth out of it. I enjoy the taste too.

Great value products are excellent, and I cannot taste the difference between that and the brand name.

Walmart's Great Value Unsweetened Applesauce is gluten free

    By

Comments about Great Value - (Walmart) Unsweetened Applesauce:

Wal-Mart's **Great Value unsweetened applesauce** is a staple around my house. My kids eat it every day. We buy the 50 ounce jars with the blue lid. This applesauce is tasty and less expensive than the name brands.

I'm quite impressed that Wal-Mart is starting to label some of their store brand products as gluten free. Since I have three children with multiple food sensitivities, it can be a real bear to find a new product that we can safely eat. If the item is not labeled as gluten free, I have to research the product to see if it contains any ingredients with gluten, among other things. **This product is labeled gluten free right on the packaging.**

Most sweetened varieties and some unsweetened applesauce contain corn. I found that out the hard way after discovering that my second child also has a sensitivity to corn and would cry and say her belly hurt after eating a couple of other types of applesauce. This product is also corn free. We don't even miss the sweetener.

On the nutrition end, 1/2 cup of unsweetened applesauce equals one serving of fruit on the Food Guide Pyramid or one fruit exchange. My girls also have GERD and are bothered by any type of fat or oil, so I substitute applesauce for the fats in my recipes. If you aren't sure that it will work well as a substitute for your recipe, you may want to replace half the fat with an equal amount of applesauce and just cut the fat in half.

And I bet you never thought of doing this with your applesauce jar--see bottom picture! I began experimenting with creative [fruit fly control][1] , and this empty jar made a nifty fruit fly trap. I poured a small amount of grape juice in it and then covered the top with a snack bag and rubber band. I poked holes in the center of the snack bag with a fork and the fruit flies checked in but they were no longer checking us out.

My only suggestion for improvement of this product would be to widen the lid. It's difficult to get the last bit of applesauce out of the jar because the top is small. Well, if they sold a gallon size, I'd probably purchase that if it were a better bargain.

    **My Viewpoint:**

Great Value unsweetened applesauce is a healthy, tasty snack that is reasonably priced.
