A Good As Tyson For Half The Price

Comments about Great Value (Walmart) Popcorn Chicken:

A lot of people have the misconception that store brand items are not going to taste the same (or even close) to name brand items. The Great Value line is the in-house brand from Wal Mart; almost everything that they sell under the Great Value brand is the same (if not better) than comparable name brand items and that includes their frozen foods like the popcorn chicken.

Not all of the locations sell this; even if they have a frozen food section there's no guarantee that they will have this. I have to go to one of the larger locations to get it because the two stores closest to me do not carry it.

The 25.5 ounce bags contain breaded chicken pieces; they are fully cooked so all you have to do is heat them up. If you microwave them they tend to get a little rubbery but it is the quickest way to heat them up. If you want to fry them you can but if you are watching your fat intake you are going to have to take that into consideration.

A suggested serving is nine pieces; that contains 170 calories, 7 grams of fat, 540 milligrams of sodium, 13 grams of carbohydrates and 13 grams of protein. Nine pieces might sound like a lot but the pieces are not the size of a chicken nugget so it is pretty easy to exceed the suggested serving size.

I have never had any bones or pieces of bones in the pieces of popcorn chicken but I would be a little leery serving these to younger kids that could bite into one and end up swallowing a piece of a bone.

Tastes like name brand popcorn chicken!

Comments about Great Value (Walmart) Popcorn Chicken:

I really enjoyed the Great Value Popcorn Chicken from walmart. I bought it because of the great price, and I will keep buying because of the great taste. I could not tell the difference between the Great Value brand and the Tyson brand of Popcorn Chicken. The Great Value Popcorn Chicken had a nice flavor that was a little spicy. The chicken meat was also very good and juicy.

Comments about Great Value (Walmart) Popcorn Chicken:

When I read the other reviews on Great Value Popcorn Chicken, and they were all great reviews, I just had to go out and purchase them. I always struggle to buy the perfect breaded chicken, partly because my kids are so fussy but partly because we all want different things. Generally speaking, I liked the quality of the popcorn chicken. It was slightly crunchy on the outside and soft white meat in the center. I don't like chicken to taste oily or fried-like and this was not. There was however a huge difference in the size of the popcorn chicken, some were as small as a pea, others were the size of a plum so they all got cooked to varying degrees. The smaller ones were overcooked when the bigger ones were just about cooked. My only other negative comment on them was that the chicken was slightly gristley in parts. They were reasonably priced (as are all things of Great Value brand) but I don't think this was one of Great Value's best.

Great chicken

Comments about Great Value (Walmart) Popcorn Chicken:

This popcorn chicken tastes really good. My daughters love it and it's a great change from regular chicken nuggets. They are fully cooked, so all you have to do is heat them up in the oven or microwave. I wish the price was cheaper though because you don't really get very much in the bag. I have noticed that popcorn chicken is a lot more expensive then chicken nuggets in all of the brands you find.
