Several years ago my husband and I decided to stop purchasing regular light bulbs.  Instead, we switched over to the new GE energy efficient fluorescent bulbs.  Regular bulbs burn out every few months and this is a continual expense.  The new bulbs worked great and indeed last for years.  However, the GE brand had a pretty price tag on them.  We were paying almost $10.00 for four bulbs.  Considering the fact that they last for years, it is still a good value.  I was happy with the GE brand until I found the Great Value Soft White Compact Fluorescent Bulbs in Walmart.  And guess what?  They were much cheaper and the package contained two more bulbs that the leading name brand.

Great Value Soft White Compact Fluorescent Bulbs

These bulbs come in a pa green package that contains 6 fluerescent screw in bulbs.  The bulbs look different than regular light bulbs.  They have a small tube that wraps around in a circle which really looks odd the first time you see them.  The bulbs I purchased are a 13 watt bulb whick equals 60 watts in a regular type of light bulb.  The package retaled for $5.99.

Claims

The package claims that using this bulb will save you $47 in energy costs.  It does not state the duration of the length of the savings, so I have no idea if this is for the life of the bulb or for a year of useage.  The Great Value Soft White Compact Fluorescent Bulbs also claim to last up to 9 years!  That is a long time for a light bulb!

My Thoughts

I love using the Great Value Soft White Compact Fluorescent Bulbs.  They are energy efficient and really do last for years.  In the time that we have used this type of light bulb, we have only replaced one bulb in the last 5 years.  Every time a regular light bulb in the house goes out, we replace it with one of these newer type of fluorescent bulbs.

Not only are we doing our part for "going green", we are also saving money.  I used to go through at least one package of regular bulbs a month at $2.99.  Now I'm paying $5.99 for a package that will last for several years.  That's a good deal!

These bulbs are energy efficient because they are a low wattage bulb.  The higher the wattage, the more energy you are using.

I have not found that the GE bulbs are any better than the Great Value brand.  They are just more expensive.  Now that I have discovered the Great Value brand, I will stick with them and keep the extra money in my pocetbook.

I think the Great Value Soft White Compact Fluorescent Bulbs are a wonderful product that not only saves me money but time and energy from changing light bulbs so often!  I highly recommend them!

True, maybe I should remind him it could also be due to one more child (one of mine) leaving the nest!

LOL, well that would coincide with the twins moving out here, so I couldn't give all the credit to the light bulbs!

Bryan swears our change made a huge difference in our power bills this year. What a savings!

Now that we are moving, I have to go through replacing all the bulbs again...fun.

I think you are right. The fluorescent bulbs last about five years so it takes a while to see if they work better from one brand to the next. Good review!
