This was a BAD HAIR day. I tried. I really did. Got up. Showered and washed my hair (like every day). Got out the blow dryer and round brush. Even broke out the styling gel.
But, oh sigh.
I looked a mess.
The more I did, the worse it got. I'm sure I'm not the only who has had a day like this.
My hair is very fine. I did get perms - not super curly but some body. That, of course, is out of style. My college girls told me I should go natural. Straight. That's the style. This is fine for some people. For me, it's like I rolled out of bed, did nothing to my hair and then ended up in a wind storm. I'd call my hair straight, but my son informed me that's not so. "It sticks out all over the place," he told me. Very true words I confess.
A bad hair day is a bad day all round. I determined to do SOMETHING. This could not wait. So, I asked my college girls where I could go for a hair emergency. No waiting. Right now.
One girl told me that I'd love Curl Up and Dye. Well, she had rainbow stripes and also got a nose piercing there. Hum. Not so sure about all that.
Another girl with regular looking hair said that Great Clips (Salisbury, North Carolina) would be the ticket. I hoped to look normal, so I went with that option.
The lady at Great Clips asked what I wanted. I told her that I did not know. "Something good," I ventured.
My Great Clips new friend suggested that we look at the hair book. She showed me a few cuts she thought would work. Those all looked reasonable.
I did the UNTHINKABLE. I told her to "go for it." I hadn't figured out the straight hair thing myself, so I figured I'd just let an expert work some magic.
I'd call my haircut Tinkerbell. It's kind of short but not real short. There are layers, but they do not fly all over the place. I can live with this. It's easier to take care of and looks much better.
Now, I can't vouch for all Great Clips or all stylists at all Great Clips. I also can't account for anyone who asks for a style that just ain't gonna happen. I saw some cuts in the book that I'd kill to have, but my hair won't do just everything that might be in a book. I don't ask for or expect miracles. Fine hair is not going to do certain things.
Also, the lady at Great Cuts said they don't do color and things like that. They do some perms - but she said it was mostly "little old lady" perms. Mostly, they just do cuts - quick and for a good price.
If you love to be pampered, have loads of time and want to spend big bucks for a haircut, then Great Clips is not for you. If you want a good haircut on the spot and do not expect a hair stylist to do things to your hair that your hair will not do, then you'll be fine. Or, I was. My hair looks and feels much better. I've never been to a walk-in salon, but I'll definately keep Great Clips in mind. I'll also look for the lady who did my hair this time. That seems to be the key. Some folks can do your hair proud. Others can't. The lady who did my hair had similar hair, and I suspect that made a difference too.
The photo is the new haircut. Feel free to vote. If you hate it, then you can come do something else with it. I swear I'm about clueless with the new styles. Some of the pictures actually look like my totally messy hair. I'm just not comfortable going out like that.
