Beautiful mahogany knife organizer but its capacity falls short.

santoku type knives don't fit, knives are stored very close together, knives are difficult to get out

I bought this knife organizer from the Container Store hoping to be able to store my knives in a drawer rather than on the counter. The organizer has 2 compartments; the main compartment has slots to hold 24 knives (8 large knives and 16 small knives) and there is a 2nd tier that spans the width of the organizer and can hold 12 steak knives. Unfortunately, once large knives - such as a 10" chef's knife is in place - the top steak knife tier doesn't fit because the blade of the chef's knife prevents the steak knife tier from sitting properly in place. Also, I have 4 various sizes of Santoku knives and they do not fit due to the curve of the blade. The spacing of the slots for the knives - both in the main compartment, and on the top tier is too close together making it difficult to get the knives out. The handles of my steak knives and other knives were all wedged against one another; this storage system works best if you use only every other slot.
