In northern Arizona lies one of America's most popular and most visited National Parks. Often listed among the world's great national wonders, this park attracts visitors from all over the world who stand in awe of its great presence. The park I'm referring to is, of course, Grand Canyon National Park. This natural wonder was created over a period of millions of years as the Colorado River carved its way through the rocky landscape. — — Park Commentary: — — The Grand Canyon is an awesome sight to see! When I went here, I stayed at a hotel in Flagstaff and drove…

To the Point — We hadn’t been to the Grand Canyon National Park in 15 years. When we found ourselves nearby we decided to spend the day. Although at first I said “Just another beautiful scene” the fact is that there is nothing like this National Park. — A Closer Look — You’ll find that there is the South Rim and the North Rim. Most visitors go to the South Rim as did we on both visits. The South Rim is open 24 hours a day 365 days a year. You’ll find camping, lodging and restaurants. — We started at the Park’s…

My in-laws live in Arizona and my wife and I were planning to visit them this summer. My father-in-law knows I am not a "heat" person as I am padded for Chicago winters. One day he stated, "We can spend some of your trip in the northern part of the State, it's cooler up there". I said that sounded good and as long as we were traveling that area why don't we stop at the Grand Canyon. I had been there as a child and remember thinking it was cool. He thought we could spend two days there. "Great" I thought, that will be a good amount of time there". Well a quick comment one afternoon sitting in…

I remember the fist time I walked to the rim of the Grand Canyon and looked out and down. I was stunned that anything could be so massive and beautiful and, to my mind, created by some force beyond our (at least, my) comprehension. — — At that time, as a teenager, I decided that archeology was the career for me. Life circumstances changed and I ended up as a writer. But every time I see the Grand Canyon, it overwhelms me again. — — I'm almost at the point that I think any parent that doesn't take their children to see this magnificent creation is derelict. Not…

Grand Canyon National Park remains one of my favorite family vacations. It had beautiful scenery at a reasonable price. I took my three children and they had the time of their life! We stayed 3 nights and we took a train ride on the Grand Canyon railway which is a historic train that runs from Williams, AZ to the national park. We also had a bus tour that took us to various look out points, the weather was cold but clear and we could see to the bottom where the river continues to cut a path through the rocks. Waking up on our second day, we were treated to mule dear eating in the meadow…

The Grand Canyon is one National Park that I missed as a child when my family went on an early camping trip in the 1950s. I first visited it with my husband many years later. The south side, especially, had too many tourists for our taste, but we found we could avoid them simply by walking the trails. Scenery and views of wildlife were spectacular. We enjoyed the north side of the Grand Canyon even more, largely because it was less traveled. The Grand Canyon is best seen as one component of a tour of the "Giant Stairway" - as the first of the parks that continue to the…

You don't wanna miss this... the Grand Canyon has got to be the one destination that every red-blooded American should see at least twice in their lifetime: once as a kid, then once again with your own kids... the scenery is breathtaking, take all the guided tour opportunities available, and take more water than you think you'll need... book some cheap motels along the way and buy your refrigerator magnets to commemorate the stops along the trip at the WalMart closest to the Grand Canyon (depending on which direction you drove in from). WalMart's always the least expensive for the…

We took a months vacation this past September and toured Arizona. The Grand Canyon was one of our main stops along the way. The first day we drove one of the drives that you can use your own car. We stopped at every pullout and saw as much as possible and that first look is just great. We just stook there in awe. What a sight. The colors and the view are magnificant. We took the tour in the bus they provide to other parts of the park and that was just as good. We did some hiking and got to see things a little closer up. It's hard to…

My first impression when looking into the Grand Canyon was that it is like a photo. It is so vast, so umbelievable! Giant trees look like moss growing on the sides. Watch out for the squirrels! They like to steal you lunch. lol I love the fact that there are trolleys to take you to each area; you can get off and stay awhile in one location then grab the next trolley to come along. You've never seen black until you see the night here! No streetlights, businesses shining through the night, etc. Total, pitch black! I could go on and on but this is definitely a MUST SEE National Park. I would go…

The Grand Canyon is one of the wonders of America that must be seen in a lifetime. More importantly, you've got to hike down to the bottom to really experience it for all its worth. Also, bring a black light if you are sleeping under the stars because you'll want to check for scorpions in your sleeping quarters; but seriously, scorpions will sting you. I slept on a picnic table, a very comfortable experience if I do say so myself; but, no scorpions so I was happy…

The scenery and the views are incredible. If you only have one day, take the train from Williams. You will get a good overview of the area and you'll have a little time to explore on your own. If you have more time, drive and stop at all the scenic turnouts. Be sure to stay for sunset or arrive early enough for…

I had the opportunity to go to the grand canyon this past summer. It was one of the best travel experiances of my life. The pictures you see of it just doesn not do it justice. It is so vast, huge, and gorgeous. I hope I can go back someday and do the burro rides through the canyon. It was not too crowded, I really don't see how it could be.…
