I am a certified car seat tech. I install car seats at least 4 times a month. This car seat is very popular and we hate seeing it coming into one of our checks because this car seat is hard to properly install if you do not have latch in the middle. If you did not know the middle is the safest b/c it is the farthest away from any crash points on the car.  With a lap/shoulder belt this car seat will lift on one side if not installed with a locking clip. the locking clip does come with the seat however most people either do not use it or they do not use is correctly.  Even when people have read the directions normally the base is still too loose to be considered safe (moves no more than 1inch side to side at the belt path or away from the seat back).  Much better to get a car seat the has some sort of locking mechanism in the base and that tolerates a better weight range for smaller babies and so that you can use it longer b/c rear facing is also safer.
