My husband and I bought the Graco NasalClear Aspirator for our son. It was getting close to cold & flu season, and last year, as a newborn, we had much difficulty using the usual bulb aspirator. It was like a wrestling match, even with a newborn.
This year, we didn't want to wrestle with an 18 month old child who still can't quite blow his nose on his own, though try as he might. We saw this product and thought that it would be a quick and simple solution to the winter months and stuff noses ahead of us.
The aspirator has a music button that plays a tune for a short period, I'm assuming to calm them while you use the aspirator. However, the noise the actual aspirator makes is so much louder than the actual music that is used to try to soothe the child.
When we first opened the product, our son was curious about the new gadget, as most toddlers are. He was a little stuffy, so we decided to try it out and see how it actually worked. We turned the music on, and while my husband held our son, I attempted to aspirate the mucus from our sons nose. The noise was so loud, our son was terrified. Now, even just leaving it laying around in his sight causes him to run screaming and crying in fear.
I would strongly suggest to any parent, new or old, to stick to the old style bulb aspirators. Yes, they are a pain, but the pain and effort is worth not having your child terrified just to make clearing their nose easier. The Graco NasalClear Aspirator is so loud and terrifying for our son, I couldn't even tell you if it actually clears the nose. This piece of equipment, though seems to be intended to make a parents life easier, must actually have been created by a sick, sadistic parent who wanted to terrify their children for punishment.
