I started watching Gossip Girl because it airs after America's Next Top Model on Wednesday nights.  As I was watching for the first time, I couldn't help but notice the narrators voice... so familiar... but who is it?  Suddenly I realized, it was Kristen Bell, also known as Veronica Mars.  Since I loved Veronica Mars when it was on, I figured I would enjoy any show she was involved in.  I am now pretty addicted to this show and here to tell you why you should check it out.

Characters
IMDB says Gossip Girl is about privileged teens in New York's Upper East side.  There are more facts about them but who really cares.  All I really know are the main characters so that is who I will tell you about.

Kristen Bell plays the narrator but you will never actually see her.  She is Gossip Girl and hosts a website where she shares rumors and pictures about the teens at this school.  When people spot anything going on, they report it to Gossip Girl and she reports it to the world.  All you hear is her voice spreading the gossip.  She's great at the part since she has a really clear and crisp voice and still has the "investigative" quality that we all loved in Veronica Mars.

Serena van der Woodsen is one of the more rebellious teens who is "spotted" in the first episode as she returns from a mysterious disappearance.  Her return is also mysterious and of course everyone is gossiping about it.  We are told she was once a wild teen, but now she is trying to be a good girl and a good friend.

Blair Waldorf is Serena's best friend who is also her complete opposite.  She is more of the snobby, goody goody type who wants to appear perfect.  It makes sense that her and Serena are friends since they compliment each other well.

Those are the leads, the rest you will meet as you watch!  There are, of course, some males in the show which is why the show is full of DRAMA!  Yes it's true.  Everyone says girls cause drama but if there weren't any guys around there wouldn't be any drama!!

Why I Like It
There is a nice variety of characters.  As I said above, the lead girls are complete opposites so you get the best of both worlds.  In addition we have a pair of under-privileged kids whose dad has scraped up enough cash for them to go to school with the rich kids.  These kids are trying their best to fit in which shows how hard it can be when you are "different".

Just like Veronica Mars, there are a lot of unexpected twist and turns.  About half of the episodes I've seen so far end with a surprise that is yet to happen.  Again, Just like Veronica Mars, I cannot wait until the next week to see what happens!!

The teens are smart but realistic at the same time.  Some people put down Dawson's Creek saying that teens don't really talk that intelligently.  This show has teens talking as you would expect and doing things you would expect.  Since they are rich they may have some advanced vocabulary but that just comes with the upbringing.  When you are raised in a privileged world, you are bound to be taught manners and vocab more.

It says on IMDB that this is a comedy but I've never found it funny.  Instead it is pure drama and romance.  That is the one real difference between Veronica Mars because that show was very funny to me.  I still enjoy this show, but for different reasons.  If I had to compare it to anything, I guess it is most like the movie Cruel Intentions but definitely not as weird.  However that movie is about bored rich kids messing with others lifes and there have been some instances of that in this show already.

On the Downside
The only negative about this show is that it's one of those shows you have to follow closely or else you may lose track and lose interest.  If you've already missed a bunch of shows, you'll be able to catch up easily as I've already seen them showing reruns.  OR, you can catch the full episodes online at http://www.cwtv.com/cw-video/gossip-girl

The End!
This show is very interesting and I'd be sad if they end it anytime soon.  With Veronica Mars being off the air, I'm enjoying this new cast of characters and new interesting story-lines.  I want you all to start watching it today so that the show can get more ratings!  Enjoy!!

They are in 10th grade? Geez that is crazy! I always thought they were supposed to be seniors or something. But oh well, I agree, still love it :-D

I just had an OMG! moment reading your review. I failed to make the connection in the voice. I have to add that it is just a little unrealistic that these kids are just in 10th grade. But I still love this show. :D

Bummer no more Veronica Mars? That doesn't look like Kristen at all. I do like her though.
