In my kitchen there s tile all around the counters and I have had to glue them back on in the past. What ever they used when they built the house only lasted about 8 years and the started falling off one by one. Last year I glued about a dozen of them on with Super Glue and about 2 weeks ago they started coming off again. So my wife tells me about this glue she has been using for about 4 years and suggested I give it a try.

Gorilla Glue

I have used Super Glue since as far back as 15 years ago and always thought it was the best, next to contact cement that is. Now my wife tells me about this stuff called Gorilla Glue and I decided to give this Furry Ape a shot.

There is a 3 step process to gluing things with this Gorilla Glue and they are very simple but made me do one of those Buttermilk Faces...you know where your eyes and mouth twist up real funny! Anyway first you dampen one piece to be glued with water.....yeah I know what your thinking.....why use water when you want to glue something...see why I made the face now? Okay now that you have one side dampened with water you put the Gorilla Glue on the other piece...but be careful this stuff is going to expand so go sparingly on the glue. Now step 3 is to clamp the two pieces together....either tape, clamp or lay something heavy on what you just glued. In about an hour you may see a foam of sorts oozing from your glued project. No worries that is what it is supposed to do, just scrape it off and you will be fine. Make sure it doesn't drip on anything good like your furniture though!

In 3 to 4 hours the piece will be permanently bonded and ready to once again be good as new. This Gorilla Glue will work on many surfaces such as Glass, Tile, Wood, Stone Ceramics and to name a few. It does say if you are gluing 2 pieces of hardwood to dampen both pieces where you are going to apply the glue.

Gorilla Glue Vs. Super Glue

As a test of how strong it holds I purposely tried to pull the tile back off the counter the next day and I could not budge it at all! I did have a little bit of ooze on the bottom of the tile but a putty knife scraped it off without too much work. It kind of looked like that spray foam that you use for insulation in walls. Anyway back to the Super Glue I used to use...I glued one of the tiles with it and let it dry the same amount of time as the Gorilla Glue and when I pulled on it real hard it came off in my hand!!!

Bottom Line

If I hadn't done my little Redneck Test between Super Glue and Gorilla Glue I never would have believed it. I was astonished at how well this Furry Ape performed and I will never use Super Glue again, not as long as they still make Gorilla Glue anyway. I am very happy with the results and have confidence that those tiles are going to stay right where I put them. I have to give Gorilla Glue the full 5 stars and just add that there should be a + rating as this stuff is Great!

This review held together nicely! Great glue you have there! Say, I wrote a song about Gorilla Glue entitled, "Did Someone Tear You A New One? Use Gorilla Glue." You can Google it.

You're welcome Laurie, it sure converted me from super glue. ;)

I've seen this advertised, but I've never tried it out. I'm glad to know that it works better than Super Glue (which usually doesn't work well for me). Of course, now that I know what to expect I won't have to make a "Buttermilk Face." LOL

Great tip. Thanks.

In response to AnnaBanana's comment from May 15, 2008 at 12:25AM:

If that happened to me I am sure the glue would also drip on the cell phone and glue it shut....;)

AnnaBanana wrote on May 15, 2008 at 12:25AM

Sounds like a great product, except I would be sure to keep my cell phone in my pocket in case I have to phone for the paramedics to come and get me when my hand got stuck to the wall! HAHA!
