Gordon Biersch - Washington, DC —

Upscale dining at it's best. When we arrived our friends had already ordered an appetizer to share which was Chicken/Shrimp Potstickers served with Asian Barbeque sauce. Our server was helpful in explaining the specials and giving us the low down on the homemade soups.
Since I love fish and chips, I ordered Beer batter fish and garlic fries served in generous portions. I don't mean garlic powder either. This was real minced garlic. The fish was a little over cooked, but the Cajun remoulade sauce that it was served with helped a bit, although they forgot to send out the Malt Vinegar as per the menu description. My husband went for the burger of the week served with garlic fries and dressed with cream cheese sauce, jalapenos, lettuce, tomato, and Tabasco. Their burgers are cooked to an internal temperature of 155 F or higher.
One of our daughters went for the linguine with cubed mozzarella, marinara sauce and parmesan cheese. The other daughter decided on a bowl of soup made with sausage and lentils and a side of sautéed mushrooms. She said the soup was good, but a little spicy. I got a taste and liked it very much. There soups are homemade starting with a rich base. The mushrooms were just so-so.
Our friends went for the burger of the week and the pulled pork sandwich with Marzen Barbeque Sauce served with a side of cole slaw. They told me all of it was good. The lunch prices were $8-$12 per person and portions were generous. I peeped at the dinner menu and the prices ranged from $10-$26 and the descriptions of each plate made my mouth water. We didn't have dessert, but the menu sounded good in their descriptions.
The atmosphere was casual and the décor was simple yet elegant, unique to the individual restaurant. The restaurant was clean and well maintained. The wait staff were neat, clean, friendly and knowledgeable about the beers and the menus.
The restaurant has fresh hand-crafted beer and the meals are made from scratch. Dan Gordon and Dean Biersch started out in Palo Alto California in 1988 and now they boast 17 restaurants in 13 states from coast to coast and one in Hawaii. In addition to the hand-crafted beer there is a full serve bar and a good selection of wine.
