GoodSearch Review

I read about GoodSearch.com here at Viewpoints and decided to check it out a few months ago. This search engine allows users to pick a charity and they will donate money to that charity based on the amount of hits and purchases generated through this website.

About GoodSearch:

• allows you to choose a charity or add one (they will verify that the charity is non-profit)
• you can change charities at any time--when we do updates to our computer, often it reverts back to a default of no charity, so I encourage you to check to be sure that your charity appears in the box if you are using this site
• will pay out once a year (they do have a minimum amount before paying money)
• limits the type of searches you can perform (I was trying to do a search on a drink that had something like XXX on it and the site reminded me that this charitable site does not allow users to access certain types of websites--this could be good if you have problems with accessing sites that you are trying to stay away from)
• will donate money for searches and for purchases (these vary in percentages and amounts but the site gives full information about these--just visit goodsearch.com) The main thing I don't like about using GoodSearch for purchases is that it takes several clicks and opens up a separate window each time, but that is a small inconvenience to me.
• is a Yahoo driven search engine--we set it as our default home page that comes up to make it easier to use but I've found that when I open up new windows, I have to click on the home key each time
• at times, the site is down for maintenance or overloaded, but I can usually use it without problems

My Viewpoint:

I am always looking for ways to give back to my community. I have added my local church and plan to add my children's school to this site. I do a LOT of web searching when I am writing reviews, and this can be an easy way to donate money to charities that are important to me. Using GoodSearch costs users absolutely nothing other than a click of the mouse--I would highly recommend it!
