Good Luck Chuck —

Good Luck Chuck is a romantic comedy starring Dane Cook and Jessica Alba that was released in the fall of 2007.  I love a good comedy and was looking forward to seeing this movie as soon as it came out on DVD.  I'm sad to say that it didn't give me the satisfaction that I was looking forward to.  Instead, this is a movie with a weak plot, comedy, and romance.

The Plot

The plot is pretty simple and a bit overdone.  Dane Cook plays Charlie Logan, a dentist, who has been cursed in his younger teen days.  The curse acts as a good luck charm for any woman that dates Charlie.  After they date him and move on, they find Mr. Right.  It works like a charm...for them that is!  And a curse for Charlie!  He goes through a lot of relationships and finally finds the girl of his dreasm, Cam, played by Jessica Alba.  Now Charlie has to figure out a way to keep Cam interested, because if she moves on and finds another he will lose out on his chance for a future with her.

My ViewPoint

This movie had some funny parts to it, don't get me wrong.  However, the characters are just not able to make this movie work 100%.  This is due in part to the plot which is a bit overdone--how many girls does Charlie have to go through to get the point across?  The movie has a few raunchy scenes that just didn't need to be shown also.  It doesn't add anything to the movie in my opinion and I think most will say just omit these scenes.

As for the romance between the two leads, Cook and Alba, there was a lack of chemistry here.  Perhaps one of these roles being cast to someone else would have worked better?  There just weren't any sparks between the two and the viewer is left with the idea that they are just tolerating each other and not imadly in love with each other.

I enjoyed the very beginning of this movie probably the most.  The kids playing spin the bottle was classic and this part also produced some valid laughs.  The rest of the movie will give you a chuckle here and there but the plot just gets old before it's time and you are left watching this movie and just waiting for the end to be near.

Watch it on DVD--it's not worth a trip to the theater.  It is rated R, has sexual scenes, nudity, drug use and raunchy humor of adult nature.  Not for kids!

This isn't my usual movie fare, but I bet you anything this flick was made because "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" was so successful.

A lackluster comedy, from your description. Thanks! :>

A romance without chemistry sure doesn't sound too appealing to me!
