The Case
We get a lot of free movie passes and advance screening tickets in the mail, and the latest one was for a movie called Gone Baby Gone. Honestly, I'd never heard of it. Had to look it up to find out who was in it and what it was about. A cop movie. Really? ...

Most HelpfulI didn't know much about Gone Baby Gone when I got it from Netflix, only that it was directed by Ben Affleck and that maybe Matt Damon had something to do with it. The film is actually Ben Affleck's debut as a director, and the lead character (Patrick Kenzie) is played by Casey Affleck, Ben's brother.
Gone Baby Gone is a story about a missing four-year-old girl who may or may not be kidnapped. The child's mother (played superbly by Amy Ryan) quickly turns out to be chillingly unfit and the girl could be anywhere... including dead. Patrick Kenzie and his girlfriend/partner Angie (played by Michelle...
review »Gone Baby Gone, is one of those rare films that makes you think long and hard about the decisions which the characters must face. Ben Affleck decided to direct a story written by Dennis Lehane, the same author who wrote Mystic River. If you have seen that film, then you know what you are getting into with this film based almost entirely in the city of Boston. This is where the movie really shines, as it shows everything from the point-of-view of local people, and stars an original in the form of Casey Affleck. The most important thing is to not get bogged down by the background of either...
review »I don't know if I've ever been so torn about how I felt coming out of a film as I have last Saturday night at the end of Gone Baby Gone.
You see, as someone who watches with a critical eye, I appreciate every reason why Gone Baby Gone is one of the best films of the year. First time director Ben Affleck does a heck of a job. His younger brother Casey turns in a great performance, just one of many by the film's cast. It makes you think, it unsettles you, it challenges you on the line of what is right and what is wrong; it asks questions most films wouldn't touch, and revels in bringing to...

I really liked this movie because it made me think. I love anything that works my brain, and ethics is one of those things. The ethics that come up for grabs in this story involve people making judgments about what is best for a child in a home where she really is not getting the best of care, though there is no overt physical abuse. Mostly the problem is neglect - so at the end of the movie when **!!!SPOILER!!!** the child is found to be in the care of the retired police chief and his wife because they think...
review »As soon as I heard Ben Afflect was going to be directing this movie I immediately called my friend and made sure we would be there on opening day. Sure he has had alot to do with the production of many other movies but this was going to be his first time directing on his own. The beinning caught my eye and held my attention. Bringing his brother Casey into the film was a brillant idea because Casey Afflect is an amazing actor...however Ben Afflect is not a good director. The movie itself was good however the angles and the way alot of the situation were portrayed made it a difficult movie...
review »I was very impressed with the movie. First of all, I think Ben Afflec did a very good job as a director, specially considering that it is his first movie as a director. Morgan Freeman is a very good actor so no surprises with his wonderful performance. However, his part is not so big. I was very impressed also with Cassey Afflec, Ben's brother, who did a very good job too. I know he has done several movies before but he is not as known as other big actors and did a very true performance.
The ending is very good. I don't want to reveal anything but it is for sure very well thought...
review »This movie actually made me cry, as it was about the disapperance of a child, and the twists and turns that came out little by little. At first you get this picture of a mom that looks distraught, then you get to see her for what she is. And you get this investigator who goes all the way with his job, no half-done's.
I did think it was highly disturbing, though, when you see the child molester and what he did to a boy. I almost threw up, it was so disgusting.
All in all the end was pretty suprising, I DID NOT LIKE the ending. I thought it was bad of Casey to report the situation. The little girl...
review »Put this movie on your absolute must-see list. The middle of the movie is admittedly a little cryptic, but it all makes sense once the ending is in place. "Gone Baby Gone" asks some moral questions that are surprisingly difficult to answer. Wow, what a great movie!
