I love Golden Retrievers! Here are words many people use to describe these great dogs: Gorgeous, People-pleasing, friendly, easy to train, smart, athletic and just wonderful! I personally love a particularly wonderful one in a million Golden. He literally understands what I want him to do without me having to train him. I can just say, “Happy, go on top of the stump” and pat the stump and he jumps up on to it! But not all Goldens are like this, recently they have become such popular dogs that breeders are cranking out puppies without even looking at the quality of the sires and dams. These...
review »My own life has been greatly enriched by having the priviledge of owning such a highly intelligent, and genuinely loving dog! Actually, I have owned one purepred Golden, named Shiloh. I have also enjoyed the long-lasting companionship of a neighborhood Golden, named Jake. Currently, I have a Goden Retriever, Yellow-Lab mix, named Autumn. Each of these fine friends has greatly enriched my own life and the lives of all who have loved them.
Shiloh lived to be 13 1/2 years of age. We got her as a puppy when the kids were little. She loved my kids and my kids loved her! She loved all kids, so much...
review »I am also a strong supporter of Goldens. We have owned them since 1995 when my husband suprised me with our first Golden, Duke. His owner was an older gentleman who was going through a divorce and could not keep him. He was about 5 yrs old & full of spunk & life. A few years later we got Dutchess from a young couple who had bought her as a puppy but did not have time for her (she was 8 months old). In 2001, Duke & Dutchess (both pure bred) had a liter of puppies which is how we ended up with Ginger. Have I mentioned that my dogs are all house dogs? We have a large, furry home. LOL
In 2003 Dutchess...
review »Is a review necessary for such an amazing animal? I think not....but because there is a category for my one true love, I must write about her. Golden's are very friendly, passive dogs. My favorite, very light colored, Bailey dog, also known as God in my house, sheds too much. This is the only complaint I have with my golden. She is beautiful, plays with any other pup, two year old, or old geezer in the neighborhood. Fair warning though, please give your golden, or any dog, sufficient exercise. If pup's aren't given enough exercise time, they are seriously annoying and unhappy.
My husband bought my Lena as a quit smoking present. That was 4 1/2 years ago. I am very lucky. My golden is a beautiful animal. She is the most loyal, loving animal. She would rather be with people than other dogs. She follows me around the house and always lays near us. Very easy to train and teach with one exception. Mine is not calm when people first come to my house. She jumps and goes crazy to say hello. Strictly friendly but she is a big girl and too heavy to be jumping on people. She listens to me and doesn't jump on me when I come home. I try to tell other people what to do when...
review »I would always recommend a Golden Retriever. We've only owned one, but he is just the very best. Kodiak (Kody). He is a love - loves to be in the center of attention. I never worry about him when strangers come to the door (not a very good watchdog). And I have to watch him when kids are around, in case he follows them home! ha
The only con is that he sheds - always and allot. I don't plan on letting that stop me from getting another one, however. Oh, and a warning - they love, absolutely love balls. As many as they can get into their mouth (Kody has had 3 at one time!) He kinda goes "brain...
review »I have a 9 year old golden named "JJ" and he's such a loving and friendly dog. Unfortunately as a puppy he was diagnosed with hip dysplasia but with tender loving care and not to much rough activity he has survived this and is like I said 9 years old.
Golden's are very easy to train and they are not to distructive as puppies. I would definately own another one but would suggest to anyone looking to buy a large breed dog to make sure they are have a vet certified certificate stating they have had their hips checked. Hip dysplasia is common in large breed dogs and are prone to acquire this as they...
review »My son finally found a dog which he enjoyed. A Golden Retriever who has been a great companion for him and full of energy, warmth , swims the rivers, chase sticks and is never really grouchy ! He loves all people and is so sweet. The one draw back is they have some health problems which I do believe he has out grown for him personally. When he was very young, but 4 months old he developed a sore front shoulder which was absolutely painful for him where he would want to sleep all of the time. The vet called it Chrodrinitus which could require surgery if it kept bothering him. Lucked out,...
review »Golden Retrievers are a wonderful breed. Sure the shed, however if you brush them everyday and take care of their coat, it won't be so bad. They are a very loyal and loving breed. There isn't anything they wouldn't do for you always eager to please. We breed goldens 4 years and used our male as a stud for 3 other owners of goldens. They liked the qualityies in him as did we. We also wanted to help improve and preserve the good qualities of the breed, so that is why we bred ours. We sold the pups at 6 weeks of age. We had big litters ( 10, 11, 12, & 15) always sold out. Never any complaints. Most...
review »If you have ever owned a Golden Retriever then you of course know they are the most loving, loyal, smartest, amazing dogs. I have a 9 year old Golden that I have had since he was 6 weeks old. Next to my son, he is the most important thing in my life. He makes everyday a joy. Even though he is 9 years old he still acts and plays like he was still a puppy. He would play ball all day if he could find a someone to play with him. If he's not playing ball he's balancing the ball at the top of the steps with his nose trying not to push it off the edge, but pushing it forward and then catching...
review »I have always been a pet lover and have owned multiple pets. Twelve years ago I purchased a Golden Retriever puppy from a private breeder. She has been a great pet and friend. SHe is very loyal and was easy to train. I now have a three year old daughter that just loves her. Summer is gentle with her and watches over her as she does ogther children as well. I also work twelve hour shifts and never have to worry about her messing in the house or chewing stuff up. I have not had issyes with her hips either but occasionally she gets tendonitis in her paw/ankle. She also has had multiple...
review »I got into golden retrievers at the age of five when I received the best birthday present still to this day. I got a one year purebred golden which I hence named Shadow...after the Homeward Bound movie. From that day on, I have never had a better friend. A year after we got Shadow, we got into the breeding business. The puppies were endless and my life was thoroughly complete. The breed, to this day, ceases to amaze me. Goldens are full of life. They are friendly, loving, energetic, and adventurous. If looking for a companion to explore, go out for a walk, or just lay around with you can't find...
