I am also a strong supporter of Goldens. We have owned them since 1995 when my husband suprised me with our first Golden, Duke. His owner was an older gentleman who was going through a divorce and could not keep him. He was about 5 yrs old & full of spunk & life. A few years later we got Dutchess from a young couple who had bought her as a puppy but did not have time for her (she was 8 months old). In 2001, Duke & Dutchess (both pure bred) had a liter of puppies which is how we ended up with Ginger. Have I mentioned that my dogs are all house dogs? We have a large, furry home. LOL
In 2003 Dutchess got out of our fenced in backyard and was by a vehicle. In 2006 Duke suffered a stroke and had to be put down. We cried so hard over both, they were the smartest dogs we have ever owned!
Ginger was lonely so later in 2006 we found Cody, also a purebred Golden. What a dork! They all have that little something that makes them unique but that little boy is full of goof. He is so funny!
That takes us to today, back in March of this year we got an email from the local humane society looking for transportation for a Golden/Chow mix to a breed rescue in Louisville, KY. I saw the photo & fell in love...I had no idea that my husband was thinking the same thing until that morning before breakfast he asked if I wanted to run down to the city pound and look at him. What can I say, I had to have him...I love lots of dogs and he was so cute! Jack is super hyper, just over a year old the vet thinks, and is all Golden except for a dime size black spot on his tounge and the "chow" syle ears he has.
They do shed, really bad and with them all being house dogs it is a constant battle with the fur! I am taking them all to have them shaved for the summer which should make them cooler during the day when they are in the garage & back yard and make bringing them in after they play in their kiddy pool easier.
Highly recommend this breed to anyone who wants the most from a dog!
