Golden Door (Nuovo Mondo)  —

I saw the Golden Door at SIFF (The Seattle International Film Festival),

and I thought it was good. The simplicity of the film adds to its charm. You are not beaten over the head with metaphors, and nothing "so disturbing it's edgy" happens like in many independent films these days. All of the main characters are likable, and the plot seems fairly realistic. However, I am definitely not an expert on Italy or the immigrant experience. The main point of the film is to reflect on the immigrant experience of coming to America, and I think the film does a good job of showing all of the various aspects that were involved. I also enjoy that the film is about a family, which makes the experience more relatable. I especially liked the father of the family. He was very charismatic. I would reccomend this film to anyone who is in the mood for something slightly intellectual, but doesn't want to have to ponder the meaning of life while they sleep.
