There's not many sports bars I feel comfortable taking my children. That's because either there's a lot of people screaming and yelling words not appropriate for children or because there's mostly burgers, fries, and appetizers.
Glory Days Grill is an exception to what I've found. It turns out that this is a chain of restaurants in Virginia and Maryland (and soon in West Virginia).
Menu:
Their signature Wings are fantastic, though several times we've had to ask them to cook them further as they still came out pink inside. There are several standard appetizers like Cheese Fries, Mozarella Sticks, Onion Rings and also Mini Crab Cakes, Nachos and a few others.
Where Glory Days shines is the variety, flavor, and consistency of their meals. Unique for a sports bar. Their burgers are some of the best you will find. Several varieties of 8 ounce burgers at reasonable prices ($7.30 to $8.00)
Last visit my son and I ordered the Shrimp Dinner ($13.00). The diner has the choice of fried, grilled, or a combination of each. We ordered the grilled shrimp and 12 of them arrived on skewers, perfectly done and delicious. The marinade tasted somewhat like a citrus and italian mixture. My wife ordered Grilled Salmon ($14). All I heard from her was, "OMG, OMG, this is delicious!" Those dinners are served with cole slaw and you can order a side salad for $2.49. In the past she has ordered the Maryland Crab Cake Sandwich ($10).
The kids are always comfortable. My 10 year old twins order either the chicken nuggets or the cheesburger and are always satisfied. There's NEVER a complaint on going to Glory Days.
There's also a few Pasta, steak, pork chops, ribs, BBQ, grilled chicken and a variety of sandwiches. The French Fries are thick, crisp, and unfortunately I could eat baskets of them. The sides of fries, by the way are HUGE!
We've never tried the desserts.
Atmosphere:
This is a sports bar. There more than 22 TV's all around the restaurant including one huge wide screen TV. They are all playing a variety of sports channels. In addition there's TV's with kids programming. What is great about this is that EACH booth has a speaker system in which you can change the channel and adjust the volume. The problem is that the kids can never agree which channel to watch and listen to!
If I have to name two complaints it's that Virginia does not yet have a No Smoking policy in effect so being a sports bar, the smoke may bother you. During the week it's not too bad. The other complaint is that while nearly all the dishes are consistent visit-to-visit, the wings are the one one which is iffy. Sometimes, they're just not done enough.
But any time we get immediate "yes's" from our kids when we mention a particular restaurant we know we're in good shape.
You'll be singing praise for Glory Days as well!
