Released in the year 1992, Glengarry Glen Ross made a very quit debut. Thinking back, I never heard of the film until it came to video, where it found most of it's audience. This film pulls no punches, striped bare of all the Hollywood glamor, and stands on a wonderful script, and a collection of actors performances to become one of the best movies you may ever see. A unicorn when compared to the offerings of today.

Directed by: Jame Foley

Written by: David Mamet

Starring: Al Pacino, Jack Lemmon, Alec Baldwin, Alan Arkin, Ed Harris, and Kevin Spacey

Glengarry Glen Ross was adapted from David Mamits award winning play. The big trick was to take it's story to the silver screen in a way that could match or come close to the quality of the play. Did it ever.

As the movie opens you almost feel as though a large blanket has been casted over you and the characters your watching. The scenes are shot very tight, and always with tension. The characters are written with an incredible amount of attention to depth, and detail. You will quickly identify with all of their human traits whither it be a procrastinator, a liar, a con-artist, a thief, greedy, self absorbed, ruthless, or the weak. The weak will not survive in this movie, because it's a movie about salesmen, and in the sales world you will be eaten if you don't perform.

In a role created specifically for the movie, Alec Baldwin appears as a sales motivator, informing this group of hard-luck salesmen that they must compete in a sales contest where the first prize is a brand new Cadillac, 2nd prize is a very nice set of stake knifes, and the 3rd prize is "Your fired". The agents work their same tired leads, until one hatches a scheme to burglarize the office, steal the leads, and sell them to a rival.

As the plot thickens, you will witness one of the greatest all-around acting performances you could ever see. This is acting at it's highest level ladies, and gents. If your a Jack Lemmon fan, you owe it to yourself to witness one of his most powerful, and moving scenes that will rip your heart out.

As the movie heads into the final act, its running on full steam, and has a nice surprise in store for it's viewers. Glenngarry should be classified as a drama, but you will find wonderful elements of comedy, and a well placed dose of mystery that will hold your attention until the final second.

Have you ever stumbeled across something and thought "This is to good to be true."? This is one of em.

Glenngarry Glen Ross has a run time of 100 minutes, and is rated R for (very strong) language.

I hope this review helped, if so please vote! Thanks!

I'll have to watch this some time. I remember when it was released - was that really 16 years ago?!?

I think I have heard of this film but have yet to see it. It definitely sounds like one my fiance has seen and possibly you and him share similar taste in directors/actors/genre of film! Will have to look for it. Is it anything like Matchstick Men with Nicholas Cage which is about a con man being conned- that was one of my fave films because of the twists and the irony in the story and the focus of human flaws/complexities. Btw, love alec baldwin. esp. in the show 30 rock- that is a show I never miss since it first debuted a few yrs ago. He is perfect from head to toe as the character he represents and really off the wall too. Actually everyone in that entire comedy show cast are talented and hilarious. I should really do reviews on tv shows I like but am always out of time..one of these days..hehe
Thanks for sharing this!
