Quick View: These are great alternatives to scented candles. They are air fresheners with a candle look but without the fear of fire from a candle. I really Glade Wisp Flameless Candles. They work well for me with two wild cats in the house who have a tendancy to like to set themselves on fire. Really, they do!

About the Glade Wisp Flameless Candle

In the interest of full disclosure, I was sent one of these for free because I am a Bzz Agent. I was not obligated to review it, however, and am NEVER asked to say anything good about a product I don't like. I would never do that.

The flamless candle comes with two AA batteries already inserted. You lift the frosted glass dome and screw in a small vial of scented oil. There are several scents to choose from. Tap on the top of the oil cylinder and the "candle" flickers like a real flame. Put the dome over the contraption and you have a flickering flameless candle that emits a really fresh, nice scent throughout the room.

If you don't want to see the flicker, just remove the dome and tap on the top again and the flicker turns off. The scent, however, emits all the time, not just when the "flame" is on.

My son pointed out that a candle wouldn't flicker if it was under a dome and that's true to a degree but I feel that the Glade Wisp Flameless Candle looks quite realistic. Besides, I much prefer a little fakery to having candles lit in my house unless I am watching them closely. I have two cats that are really are drawn to flames. More than once, one has burned its paw or even its tail by getting too close to the flame. Several times, they have knocked over lit candles, making a mess and giving me a heart attack. I am terrified of fire.

Now, I don't have to worry. I have a candle effect without the hazards and the scents are nice and fresh. I have no messy wax to deal with and one dome lasts forever. I just have to swap out scent oils. So far, the batteries show no sign of dying and I have the flameless candle on a lot.

The only thing that is kind of funky is that, if you handle the frosted dome with greasy fingers, the frost on the outside will actually wear away and leave a "fingerprint" of clear glass. Be sure to touch the dome with dry, clean hands and you'll avoid that problem. Otherwise, this little device is a perfect hybrid of air freshener and candle without the danger that actual candles pose. Great for those with small kids or crazy animals, the Glade Wisp Flameless Candle is a safe alternative to real candles.

My Viewpoint

I like everything about the Glade Wisp Flameless Candle! The only thing I would do differently is to make it somewhat smaller. It takes up quite a bit of space and I would like a smaller votive size. Still, I plan to continue using mine and buy another for my bedroom. I so love the look of a flickering candle and the scent it gives off but I could never sleep knowing a candle with flames was sitting near me. Now I can get the candle effect without the fire hazard! 4 stars!

Cool! I want to review it but it's sooooo complicated to put down all it does. We really like ours though. It's very neat and combines everything into one. I was lost at first but now I am an old hand at using it. I only push the help button once every few days as opposed to every few minutes. lol.

We also received the Harmony One remote and was dumbfounded when we learned how much it cost. It's the best present ever. lol

Yeah...that is the only thing I don't like about the candle. I have to be super careful about the fingerprint thing.

I got the Harmony One remote too. That thing is around $250 to buy! I love it but it is pretty high tech. Bzz is fun. I don't spend a ton of time there but enjoy the campaigns and the frogpond.

That's awesome. I just became a Bzz Agent, too. My wife is one as well and we also have this candle. It does that job.

I like these too but you are right about the greasy fingerprints .. what's up with that?? Great review as always!

If our cat doesn't fit she will just stick her head in and meow....like she is complaining because the box is too small...lol I think cats are the comedians of the animal world.;)

These are the answer for moms with young kids or sure. I am really afraid of fire and I don't even like my 22 year old burning a candle in our office when he works in there. Then again, he IS a young kid in some ways. Heheh.

Just buy a box of matches! They're cheaper and get the job done. ;)

My cats always hide in boxes and bags. One day, they're going out in the trash and they can't say I didn't warn them! lol.

Funny sound bite. Thanks for the laugh, Patty. What a great idea for moms of little ones (and people with interesting cats)! : )

Dang and I thought our cat climbing into boxes half her size was bad.......our cat runs from heat. ;)

In response to kid-kansas's comment from May 13, 2008 at 12:08AM:

My cats try to sleep in pans on the stove. We have a gas stove. They would get in a pan while things were cooking if we weren't right there. It's crazy how they are drawn to heat and flames. One likes to bat at candle flames and it scares the heck out of me. These are better for my peace of mind although I still do use candles when I am right there to be sure I won't have a cooked cat. lol.

I was reading some other reviews that say the batteries don't last long but I have had no issues at all. I have mine flickering right now and they are same batteries that came with the unit quite a while ago. :)

Burning cat tail is a scent I really don't want to smell! ;) These do sound nice with both a flicker of simulated flame and scent. Plus you don't have to remember to blow them out....lol ;)

I love these as well. I have always been a candle burner, but once I ad my little one, I gave them up pretty much, so these make for a great replacement. Also, side note, I have had mine for quite some time and use it often, and the battery is still good!
