It's not that long ago that if I were in the supermarket and needed trash bags, I'd look for the cheapest and throw them into the shopping cart. I mean afterall, they are made to throw out aren't they? How long do they have to last?
Well, you don't have to break too many on a pristine shiny white ceramic floor to have your attitude adjusted. Trust me when I tell you that wet, stale coffee grounds do not play nicely with a white floor.
One day while walking the paper goods aisle I came accross Glad ForceFlex Tall Kitchen Trash Bags. Honestly, on this trip I wasn't shopping for trash bags. But the photograph on the box caught my attention. It showed a garbage bag with all kinds of things jutting out of its side but it didn't give. "If only", I thought. Marketing hype? That's what I thought but I decided to try them.
What are they?
ForceFlex bags at first glance look like most every other white draw-string tall garbage bag. On closer examination though you notice a pattern of diamond shaped cells. According to Glad, this unique design gives the ForceFlex bags incredible strength by allowing the bag to stretch. This also allows the bag to stretch around bulky items without ripping or tearing. These are great claims but how did the really perform.
Over the next few weeks we used them and stuffed them good. I have to admit they didn't tear although they sometimes took on a very odd shape. But then I decided to see just how much weight they would take. I took four gallon jugs of water (approx. 32 lbs) and placed them in the trash bag. While the bag definitely stretched it didn't break. This was an item I would like.
I purchase the bags in the Publix Supermarket for something on the order of 2 boxes of 38 bags for $11.00. When not on sale expect to pay between $13 - $14.
My Viewpoint
While they are a little more expensive than other brands, price should not be a show-stopper. Glad ForceFlex Kitchen bags do their job and they do it well indeed. If you've ever found yourself on your hands and knees trying to clean up wet coffee grounds with a Dustbuster you can appreciate the value of these bags. Try them.
