I hadn’t tried vitamin water until my daughter got hooked on it at college. On the surface it sounded interesting, adding something to her diet that I am sure she was missing being on a college student’s poor diet. Whether there was actually any real benefit to this and how it tasted was up to debate.

Since she had to spend all of the cash left on her food card, she bought some extra Vitamin Waters and brought them home. Being they were around, I thought I would give them a try. Boy was I surprised. They were pretty good.

There are 14 different flavors of Vitamin water, each with their own name, flavor and “health enhancer”. The 14 flavors are:

NAME            FLAVOR                        ENHANCERS

power-C        dragonfruit                    c + taurine
defense        raspberry-apple            vitamins c + Zinc
focus            kiwi-strawberry                vitamin a + lutien
balance        cran-grapefruit                c + glucosamine
endurance    peach-mango                e + ribose
essential        orange-orange            c + calcium
vital-t            lemon tea                        vitamins c + e
energy        tropical citrus                    vitamin b + guarna
b-relaxed        jackfruit-guava            b + theanine
rescue            green tea                    c + egcg
charge            lemon-lime                b vitamins +electrolytes
multi-V            lemonade                    vitamins a to zinc
formula 50        grape                        50% daily dose vitamins
revive            fruit punch                    b + potassium
xxx                 acai-blueberry-pomegranate        triple antioxidants

All of the above drinks are 50 calories / 8 oz serving, or 125 calories per the 20 ounce bottle (rescue and focus are only 40 calories / 8 ounce serving, or 100 calories per 20 ounce bottle).

Yes, the all have sugar, but as you can tell by the calorie count, but is far stingier on the sugar than a conventional 20 ounce bottle of soda.

How do they taste…. Actually, pretty good. If you go into it understanding that you won’t get the sugar rush that you get from soda, the taste is pretty good. The flavors are also pretty good. They are not the “hit you between the eyes” kind of taste, again, partially because of the lack of sugar but the different flavors are strong enough. The strength of the flavor is more along the lines of Propel, than a fruit drink.

AS you can see from the above list, depending on how you want to “enhance” or supplement your daily intake of food, you can pretty much choose whatever you want. Are you looking to help your joints? Go with Balance for extra glucosamine. Concerned about the amount of antioxidants you consume? Go for the XXX flavor. You get the idea. Supplement your daily intake with, well, the supplements of your choice by choosing the right drink!

Once you get used to the flavors you like, you can quickly recognize your flavors on the shelf since each flavor has its own color. Each bottle clearly explains what “health enhancers” have been added to that bottle. On the back there is the standard "nutrition box” that explains not only the characteristics of the drink, but also lists the “enhancers” there as well. In, addition, there is a short story extolling the virtues of that particular flavor, who would most likely be drinking that flavor, and a snappy little sentence about the flavor as well. All I can say is “cute”!

Do I have anything negative to say about Vitamin Water? Only the price….. I have seen them as high as $2/bottle. Way too much. I have also seen them at Walmart and Target for as low as $1/bottle when on sale. Much more reasonable.

Do I recommend Vitamin water? Yes. Cold it is a very refreshing drink. Not sugary sweet that makes you thirstier than when you started, but refreshing enough to make you glad to had it.
