Giordano's - Chicago, IL —

Giordano's has several franchises, throughout Chicago and the surrounding suburbs and what I really respect is the consistency of quality from one to the other.  I know what to expect when I walk into a Giordano's whether it be downtown Chicago, or out in the suburbs by my home.  The ingredients are extremely fresh and flavorful.  The pizza combo choices are virtually endless, so I encourage folks to mix it up and try new things.  You will have to wait, but as Alton Brown is fond of saying "Your patience will be rewarded"  The best way to eat at Giordano's is to phone ahead before leaving the house to give them a jump start on creating your pizza (which to do properly is about an hour to hour and a quarter).  They have a nice selection of appetizers and salads....I am personally fond of compressi salad, but they also offer a more mainstream fare with deep friend mozzerella sticks, batter dipped mushrooms, onion rings, breaded calamari, ceasar and house salads, and some pretty kick garlic and cheese garlic breads.   Most of their restaurants do have liquor license for beer and wine at least, but they offer the drinks without making it a place that you wouldn't like to have your children.  Even though they have expanded, the individual restaurants still have that family neighborhood Italian restaurant feel.   You can get your beverages by the pitcher or by the glass.  Free refills on soda and iced teas.  And the pizza is one of the best representations of Chicago Deep Dish Pizza anywhere.   A large pizza easily will cover four adults and probably still leave something for the take home box-especially if you have had an appetizer or salad which have pretty generous portions.  There is also a pretty nice array of Italian inspired dessert treats, if you aren't exploding from your pizza....and proper deep dish pizza is a knife and fork affair.  I have taken family members from other parts of the country to Giordano's and it is now their first request when they visit.   I have also taken people who claim to dislike pizza in any form and converted them with one deep dish goodness experience.   The large pizza will cost anywhere from $20 for just cheese and sauce to up to $35 depending upon how many toppings you want to throw into the mix.  Soft drinks average about $1.75 with refills, and desserts come in about $5.00-  Usually one dessert serving will feed two.  The appetizers range in price as do salads, and size of the dish influences.  You can usually add a side salad for $2, but something like the compressi will run about $8....Purchasing your wine and beer with pizza is a bit pricey, and you could probably buy almost  a full bottle of wine for the price of one glass on many varieties.  I prefer to just have iced tea  or lemonade
