Quick View: I was sent this razor by the company and I like it. I do NOT like the cost of refill blades though. This is a good razor that has built in butters and oils so you don't need shaving cream and it shaves well. But the solid shaving cream part melts fast and the refills are dreadfully expensive.
About Gillette Venus Breeze 2 in 1 Razor for Women
If you know me even a little, you know that I am a huge mark for the color purple. Whatever it is, if it is purple, it starts out on the right foot with me. This razor is purple. Yahoo! The razor is just like many of the Gillette women's razors. I have one in blue that the refills fit - I believe it is called the Venus as well. The handle is slim and grooved and slightly rubbery for a good grip. The head has three blades encased in pretty purple opaque "stuff". That stuff is a combination of butters and such to allow you to shave without using shaving cream. The stuff melts and the razor glides along very smoothly. I have to say this. This razor does give a wonderfully close shave. My legs were like velvet when I was done shaving them. Very impressive. However ... just as with the Schick Intuition razor before it, the solid part melts before the blades are dull. Still, that isn't as big an issue as it is for the Schick because you can just use the razor as you would any pivoting women's razor without the solid stuff. It's all dandy until refill time comes. Then reality hits. Eight refills are around $23.00! Get outta town. I'll use two dollar shaving cream and less expensive blades, thank you very much!
Having said that, I do like this razor. It gets a little bit sticky and goopy but not too much so. It gives a beautiful, very close shave and my legs have not been nicked or cut at all. The pivoting head gets around knees and ankles with ease. The blades last quite a while although the solid only lasts maybe three to four shaves. If you leave it in the shower, it will melt faster still. So, do I like this razor? Yes. Will I buy refills for it? Only if I get them on eBay for a darn good price. I won't buy them for full price no matter how nice the razor is. That's insanity.
My Viewpoint
Tough to rate this one. Based PURELY on how the razor performs, it's great. However, thinking about the bottom line and how much refills cost, it really isn't so great. How to rate, how to rate ... I am going with 4 stars. It certainly gives an above average shave. I guess whether you want to buy the refills is up to you. I will go stalk eBay and buy in bulk as I have with my husband's Mach 3 razor. I refuse to pay almost $3.00 a refill! Buy this only if you are prepared to sink that kind of money into it - or you can use regular Venus refills which are somewhat cheaper.
