Gillette Satin Care Shave Gel For Women, Sensitive Skin Review

Shaving is a routine that is unlikely to ever come to an end. For men, even when we get old, we are still likely to shave because even though the hair on our heads may be gone, the hairs on the face continue to grow and thrive. I have to shave every day in order to keep my skin smooth and I have my favorite shaving gels and foams, but sometimes I run out and I am forced to use some of the wife's shaving aids. This is how I got to know Satin Care Sensitive Skin Formula, a shaving gel from Gillette.

Shaving Commentary:

I have a few favorite brands of shaving gel but when I ran out recently, I was forced to borrow some from the wife. I was skeptical but I decided that shaving gels are generally all the same and gave this product a chance. Even after giving it a fair shake, however, I cannot say that this gel is every bit as good as my usual shaving gel products. First, Satin Care is a little sloppier than the other gels, and a little slimier- like hair gel. When the gel is released from the container, Satin Care looks a little different. It isn't as clear or as tightly packed as my favorite brands. Instead, the gel has a cloudy color and it quickly begins to turn to white foam, even without rubbing it on the skin first.

Because of these initial qualities, Satin Care doesn't hold tightly against the skin like other gels. The foam is a little looser on the face and thus it doesn't seem like it contributes as well to a close shave as I would prefer. I can still get the results I want by scraping the razor over my face again and again, but I don't have to do this as much with other gels.

On the positive side, however, this gel is good for its lubricating qualities (from the added aloe and Vitamin E) and it also offers a pleasant smell. This latter quality took my by surprise because I assumed this product would offer a very feminine scent, like many other shaving gels for women often do. But the scent is actually gender- neutral. In fact, if it wasn't labeled as "for women", I never would have guessed it was made with the ladies in mind.

Bottom Line Viewpoint:

Overall, Gillette Satin Care is a decent product from the people at Gillette. It has some qualities I don't prefer, but it does smell fairly nice and it does lubricate the skin appropriately to prepare it for shaving. I will likely be scraping blades across my face for many decades to come, so borrowing some feminine shaving gel every now and then is inevitable. And Gillette Satin Care for Sensitive Skin is an acceptable shaving product when the need to shave arises and there is no other gel in the house.
