Gillette Fusion Razor Review

Okay, I'm coming clean on these pages.  About a year and a half ago when Gillette introduced this razor I wrote a scathing review of it elsewhere.  Truth be told I was predisposed to savage this product.

I mean five blades? Come on, give me a break here.  Wait!  Six blades if you count the trimmer on the back.  Really, were there consumers so gullible that they'd fall for this?

So, I set up a comparison between the Fusion and a cheap single edged disposable.  Honestly, for one shave of some day and a half old stubble there was virtually no difference except for the absurd cost of replacement cartridges.  So I wrote my review.

And now?

Well you didn't think I'd throw it away did you?  Of course not.  And one day I bought some replacement blades after swallowing hard.  Replacement blades go for almost $4 each.

I have to admit after all this time, I continue to use the Fusion Razor and when occasionally I can't find it and use one of my other razors I do feel deprived.

What I like

The Fusion really does deliver a fast, smooth, safe shave.  I emphasize safe because I have yet to nick myself with this razor.  I can honestly say that I have never found this to be true of another razor.

In the morning I usually shave in the shower and shave quickly at that.  This razor works exceptionally well in this situation.

What I don't like

This is one expensive shaving system.  The razor itself (battery-powered version) is normally $12.95 with one blade included.  But the real crime here is the almost 4 bucks each you have to shell out for new replacement cartridges.

The appearance is a little over the top as well.  This much chrome hasn't been featured on a product since the "classic 50's era" in the auto industry.  Think '59 Caddy!

But on balance

In order to justify this extravagance I just tell my usually utilitarian self "it's just one of life's little indulgences".  Guess what?  I fall for this line every time.

If you're looking for a smooth, fast, safe shave, you need look no further than Gillette's Fusion Razor.

Finally, my conscience is clear.
