Deodorant continues to evolve and consumer preferences continue to change. At one time, spray deodorant was the only type offered. Then, roll- ons hit the scene and took away some of their market share. Stick deodorants came next and the most recent type of deodorant is the gel variety. I have become partial to gel deodorant over the past few years and one brand/scent I often purchase is Gillette Cool Wave, a deodorant/antiperspirant product.

Deodorant Commentary:

Gel deodorants are a product that turned me off when they were first introduced because they seemed too sticky and gooey to place on the armpits. I was a stick man at the time and refused to try anything else. I liked the long- lasting quality of stick deodorants and I liked the relative dryness that stick deodorant offers. I didn't want to give in and give gel a chance but it was Gillette that changed my mind. I tried this and a few other in the Gillette Series line and I have been using gel deodorant ever since.

One mistake that people often make with gel deodorant is using too much of it per application. When you turn the knob and release some of the gel, you need to be careful only to release a very small amount. The small drops of gel should be barely visible from the top of the dispenser. Any more than that will not only waste the gel, it will also take longer for it to dry. I have found that I can dispense a small amount, spread it on one armpit, and then spread the remaining amount on the other armpit without dispensing more gel. The small amount I use is adequate for a full day of protection and it makes the container last longer.

Like I said, I was reluctant to give gel deodorant a try at first because of the initial wetness when it touches the skin. It is true that the wet feeling is more pronounced with a gel than with a stick. But I have never had any real problem with this. For one thing, the gel doesn't stay wet very long. It dries into the skin's surface quickly. Also (and most importantly), it doesn't leave any stains on clothing. You know the wet gel is obviously coming in contact with your shirt but there is no sign of any damage: no streaks, no clumps on the shirt, nothing.

Bottom Line Viewpoint:

Overall, Gillette Cool Wave is a very good deodorant with a nice scent and very good odor protection. The wetness protection offered by this product isn't as perfect as I would like (it cannot prevent a heavy sweat) but it is still good for ordinary use. And the clean, masculine scent is pleasant and fresh. All of this for a price of about $3.25 for a four ounce container makes Gillette Cool Wave a product I will continue to use for the foreseeable future.

Thanks for the clear review. I bought this product thinking it was a stick and wondering how the hell to use it (I thought I had to remove the grill first!). Anyhow, all is clear now. Dan. FL.
