Gevalia Costa Rica Peaberry Review

I thought I'd write my first review over my favorite variety of coffee, the Costa Rica Peaberry; specifically, the Costa Rica Peaberry available for home delivery from Gevalia Coffee.  Gevalia offers great promotions, and brings with it the endorsement of the Swedish Monarch, but they use these not as crutches, but only to get their foot into your home's door.  I find their coffee to definitely possess superior coffee to common Folger's, and I even prefer their brews to most of the drip coffees of Starbucks.

The Costa Rica Peaberry is moderately priced in terms of their selection. (I believe it is $6.95 / half pound.)  I would prefer it to the Kona or Jamaica Blue Mountain that can near double and triple it in cost, respectively.  Its taste is somewhat similar to their Mocca Java, but with less of an acidic aftertaste.  It does have a slight acidity, but I happen to like that.  I list it only as a negative for those who place a premium on a mild, smooth brew.  It makes a very smooth cup, though!

Additionally, it was sufficiently bold for my tastes (I take my coffee without cream, sugar, or any other such additive - appreciating the coffee flavor itself).  It has a wholeness to it that I believe would be described as a full body.  I recall - hopefully correctly - that Gevalia describes it as having a floral overtone.  I would describe this as a slightly fruity overtone, but it's very light, only providing an amusing overtone which balances the remaining acidity, so more conventional connaisseurs need not worry that by this I mean that it has any type of fruit flavoring added.

If I was to place a Gevalia order, this coffee would definitely be in my next order!
