Gevalia Coffee —

Here's another company which has been around for a while -- Gevalia Kaffe was established by Victor Theodor Engwall in 1853.  His company has been cranking out some of the best coffee ever since for 155 years.  A few years ago, I earned MyPoints for joining the Gevalia Monthly Membership Plan which netted me a nice coffee maker (free) and periodic shipments of eight ounces each of my two chosen flavors: Colombia and Cinnamon.  This coffee has never been a disappointment -- however, since I live alone and don't usually drink more than an occasional cup of Folger's Instant now and then, I finally cut back my Gevalia shipments to what I really only needed for the occasional treat of making a whole pot of this delicious brew.  I must also add that this coffee (and other Gevalia products) are a tad expensive -- frankly, $37 is more than I would usually spend for a 16 ounces of coffee but it is a fine luxury now and then.  The coffee grounds are vacuum packed in resealable foil bags to preserve their freshness and so flavorful that a little goes a long way.

Gevalia Kaffe carrys a wonderful selection of gourmet and gift merchandise, including their own version of the Gift of the Month Plan -- Classic Coffee Gift of the Month, including monthly gifts of Gevalia ground coffee accompanied by "a gourmet treat or a coffee accoutrement."  Selections include:

November -- The Right Mix

Traditional Roast coffee with almonds covered with a blend of bittersweet and milk chocolate.

December -- Season's Eatings

Stockholm Roast coffee with holiday-wrapped dark chocolates.

January -- Breakfast Basics

Breakfast Blend coffee with white porcelain 20-oz. cereal bowl and 13-oz. cup and saucer.

February -- Love is in the Air

French Roast coffee with Valentine-wrapped dark chocolates.

March -- Luck o'the Irish

Irish Creme coffee and a set of four 10-oz. Irish coffee/cappuccino glass mugs.

April -- Chocolate Indulgence

Antico Caffee Greco coffee to savor with coffee, raspberry, and hazelnut-infused milk chocolates

May -- Time for Lime

Signature Blend coffee to enjoy with Key Lime Cake.

June -- Gevalia on the Go

Antiqua coffee with Gevalia stainless steel 14-oz. travel mug.

July -- True Blue Flavors

Blueberry Creme coffee with Biscottea Blueberry Shortbread.

August -- Summer Pleasures

Kenya coffee with white porcelain 6-oz. sugar and creamer set.

September -- The Munch Bunch

Hazelnut coffee and cranberry nut mix.

October -- Simply Stirring

Creme Brulee coffee with a hand-held frother.

More Information:

The Classic Coffee Gift of the Month Plan comes in either Regular or Decaffinated and in three, six, or 12 month formats.  For extra money, you can give the Classic-Plus Coffee Gift of the Month Plan which adds an extra 8 ounces of coffee to each delivery.  Whichever plan you choose, your recipient will also get a free gift of a Stainless Steel Mug Tower (a $19.95 value) along with the first shipment.  (For further shipping and pricing details, please visit gevalia.com.)

Everyone has their own taste. Some people hate Starbucks!

I don't often brew coffee at home here, usually make instant.

I tried it i didn't like it at all.

Thanks for the good thought. Yes, we are in the midst of great trials and tribulations here, no doubt about it. Definitely, the force does not appear to be with us at the moment!

I wish you lived near me, Mike! I'm stacked up with this stuff and it stays fresh forever because it is so well vacuum-sealed and packaged. I'd be glad to share a little with you if you and I were within walking distance!

I'd give this one a HV but the site won't let me....but you know I meant to give you one!

This is good coffee, I used to get it...but it was just too expensive! Nice review!

Thanks for the input -- hadn't heard of Camano. At any rate, I am so stocked up with coffee now that I won't have to worry about it again for a while. Thanks for reading my review!

A little pricey, even for the level of coffee. I switched over to (equally good specialty coffee) Camano Island Coffee Lover Club (http://www.camanoislandcoffee.com/coffee-lovers-club-benefits.php) and get a pound more.

My taste buds tell me they are similar.

I always get offers in the mail to join their coffee club and get a free coffee maker ta boot but I'm not a coffee drinker and am happy with a cup of Folgers every 3-4 months. ~Gigi

Not a big coffee drinker, no coffee maker and definitely too pricey. Bet your kitchen smells delicious when it's brewing! Thanks for the info.

In response to LisaCarey's comment from Nov 20, 2008 at 12:27PM:

I should really check my last month's shipment bill because I think the $37 included tax and shipping. But of course since you have to pay tax and shipping, THAT IS WHAT IT COSTS, let's face it! So Bryan is the coffee person in your house, huh? Have a nice evening, Lisa, and thanks for reading my review and checking in!

LisaCarey wrote on Nov 20, 2008 at 12:27PM

I had wondered if it was good coffee, I am not a coffee drinker but a cup from Bryan's pot here and there is nice. WOW it costs that MUCH! Guess I will stick with whatever he decides on at the market.

In response to this2shallpass19's comment from Nov 20, 2008 at 10:52AM:

Oh yah! At least that's what it's been for me so far. I've had to cut them back to only four shipments a year and if things keep going the way they are, I may have to go "cold turkey!" But it IS good coffee! I don't know who can afford to give these Gift of the Month plans anyway but they are sure interesting to read about and we can always HOPE! Thanks for reading my review -- I love yours too. Sometimes I just leave helpful points though without comments but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy them. Sometimes with baby things and stuff, I know a review is helpful but may not have much to say about it since I've never had kiddies. Well, takecare and have a nice day!

this2shallpass19 wrote on Nov 20, 2008 at 10:52AM

I have never tried their coffee, but it sounds delicious. Is it really $37.00 for 16 ounces? Wow, maybe I will never know just how good it is! Thanks for your detailed review.
