Gevalia CM-500 12-Cup Stainless Steel Coffee Maker Review

I received the Gevalia 12 cup coffee maker free when I signed up for their service. I wasn't expecting much (I'm a believer in 'you get what you pay for') but I was really surprised.

Let's start of with the superficial - the appearance was great. Brushed stainless steel, tiny buttons that don't detract from the looks, digital display, nice overall look to it.

Now to the meat of it, for me at least. First I want to say, I am not a coffee drinker - I use mine to make water for tea. The best thing about this machine, for me, is that the water doesn't come out with that nasty plastic after taste that I have found in so many of the ones I've bought. I use fresh cold water to fill it, then either set the timer or turn it on. When the water is done, I make the tea and there is absolutely NO taste of plastic. Huge plus for me. Another big plus for me is the programming. When I wake up at 5:30 AM, I don't want to stand around waitingfor the water to get hot. I love going downstairs to the kitchen and having the water ready to go. I also love the keep warm feature, but most of all I love the auto shut-off. I can be pretty absent minded so if I leave for work, not sure if I turned it off or not, I can feel comfortable knowing that it'll be off by 7:20 at the latest.

If you're looking for an attractive, functional coffee maker, this is the one to go for  - overall a great buy (especially if you got it for free like I did!).
