Gevalia CM-500 12-Cup Stainless Steel Coffee Maker —

To the Point

For the second time we took the offer at http://www.gevalia.com and got a wonderful Gevalia 12-cup programmable coffeemaker - model number XCC-12. I'm not reviewing the website except to say that both times we have taken them up on their offer the transactions were easy from start to finish.

A Closer View

Gevalia will send you half pound packages of coffee. With the initial purchase of the coffeemaker, $14.95, we were able to choose two flavors. For an additional $1.29 we also got 40 filters. The coffee runs from $5.55 to $7.45 plus shipping and handling. That's not only more we like to spend but the coffee isn't organic and in general I don't think it is delicious. However the coffeemaker is wonderful. It comes with a scoop as well.

Once we got it we canceled the program which if you don't you'll receive coffee or tea every six weeks. You might want to cancel it right away unless you think you might buy into the program. If so I would suggest making a note in your calendar to cancel it before you get the next box just in case you don't want it.

The coffee maker has the following features:

  • Pause and serve which allows me to stop the brewing cycle and pour a cup of coffee before it's done brewing
  • Water level indicator which is an easy to read clear area that shows me how many cups of water I've poured into the Gevalia. Now you may think this is unnecessary; however, I have on more than one occasion poured water in and then forgotten how much I put in. So now I can just look and see that there are 4 or 6, etc. cups of water.
  • The on light lets me know that the coffee maker is on. It's a green light. To start the brew cycle I just press the start/stop button twice and the brew cycle starts.
  • The programmable timer light says auto on my coffee maker when it is set to start brewing at the time I programmed it to start. The programmable clock lets me program my coffeemaker 24 hours in advance with a built in digital timer/clock.
  • There is a cord storage to hide the cord though the cord is not very long.
  • I like the filter basket. It has a handle which lies flat until I lift it up and can take out the basket so I don't make a mess with the coffee grinds.
  • It has what they call a shower head filter which allows the hot water to be evenly dispersed across the filter. This is on top of the machine under the lid. It looks like a shower head!
  • The coffeemaker has an auto shut off which turns itself off after two hours. I love this feature!
  • The glass carafe is really pretty and is heat resistance so the coffee stays - well I'll say warm rather than hot - for a decent amount of time.
  • The machine is very pretty coming in black and silver and white and silver. Mine is white and silver. It is on the large side measuring 13 1/2 inches high by 9 inches wide. Even though it's large and my counter is crowded it fits nicely in the corner because of its design.
The machine is so easy to clean. I just rinse the carafe out with dish soap and water. I wipe down the machine with a sponge or damp towel and I rinse out the basket in which the filter sits.

This was a great purchase!

Well I've put microwave food in the oven without taking it out of the box AND once I made bagels for Passover and forgot the eggs. We both have brain fog (: Jo

I have a similar problem, but it's not water I forget but flour when I make bread.
