Get2Human Web Site provides some great information for people who do not like to be bothered with a phone tree. I don't mind automated phone services that allow me to pay bills or give me directions to their store, etc., but there are times when I need to speak to a real person on the phone and the automated systems are just irritating instead of helpful. Some phone trees are set up well in which they have an early option to speak with a customer representative, but some seem to never have that option.
Get2Human Web Site is nicely organized and easy to read because the businesses are listed alphabetically. Here's what else it lists on the chart:
I decided to send Walt Tetschner, the project leader, a quick email just telling him that I liked his web site. He sent me a personal message back the same day, so he seems to be on top of things--I didn't request any sort of information or ask any questions, so I was pleasantly surprised to get a response at all. Web sites like this have a potential for abuse from companies (trying to make the company sound better or a competitor seem worse), but hopefully the information is accurate or they catch trends if a company is trying to affect results.
The site also has a blog and lists general tips for getting past phone trees. It offers suggestions to businesses who want to provide better customer support.
My Viewpoint:
Phone trees can actually save me time if I'm paying a bill or just need a simple FAQ answered, but it's usually easier to do many things like that online now. If I'm using the phone to contact a company, I usually need to speak to a human. Get2Human web site provides helpful information that customers can use to speak with a customer service representative and offers tips for companies too. If you hate to go through pushing numbers or saying words multiple times just to get assistance, you may find this web site helpful as well.
