Get Smart Review Summary

Get Smart is "a part Steve Carell was born to play!" While a large majority of reviewers give this movie remake favorable reviews, many admit to hoping for more, feeling it "was cute, but I expected hilarious." Carell stars in this film adaptation of the role Don Adams created for TV, with Anna Hathaway playing the Barbara Feldon role. The dry humor, sexy costar, and innovative technology all remain here in Get Smart, as well as a few of the original writers from the TV series. Some found this just as funny and brilliant as any Steve Carell movie or his own TV series, The Office. Only a select few reviewers found that Get Smart "missed it by that much."

When I saw that Steve Carell was going to star in the comedy Get Smart, I was excited.  I was even more excited to see Anne Hathaway and Dwayne Johnson (the Rock) would also be starring.  Furthermore, my friends saw it last week and said it was really good.  So I went in expecting a lot.  Steve Carell...

This reimagining of the beloved TV show doesn't work as well as it should, but it definitely has some hysterical moments. Carrell pays some lip service to Don Adams, but goes a long way towards making the role entirely his own. Some of the best moments of the film come from the fantastic lineup of supporting... read full review »

The original Get Smart TV series was such a 60s classic, and was so identificable with the dry humor of star Don Adams, the sexiness of costar Barbara Feldon, and the innovative technology, the only way to truly honor this entertainment from our past is bring two of the original writers back. While the story in the new film version of Get Smart is written by Tom J. Astle and Matt Ember, the characters are written by Mel Brooks and Buck Henry, the two lead writers of the series.

The main characters of the original Get Smart series remain, just with new actors behind them. Steve Carell, master of...

You always know what to expect when watching Steve Carrell and his dry yet catchy humor. Well hands down they have done a great job at rebirthing a classic TV series that our parents grew up on into something that was enjoyable on the bigscreen. I'm thinking that this is the new direction for films to grab attention of all ages. "if we put old characters in movies with a new spin everyone will enjoy" right? Well my friends they are correct and seem to amaze the elderly of course everyone gets analytical about whats correct and what they've changed, but lets face it change is doog i mean GOOD lol... read full review »

I was disappointed with this movie.  I was expecting to be more funny but it wasn't.   I alway likes steve movie but this one didn't make the cut.  The chemistry between the characters were not there and the storyline was ok.

This was a pretty sweet comedy. Being someone who is constantly jaded by the quality of movies in the theatre presently, I was very happy to see this.

 It was family friendly. 8/10.

Wish I had a a better memory or asteno pad/pencil with me at this movie. "Get Smart" jokes were rapid-fire and on the money. I knew in advance not to expect much of a story.  I love sight gags and spoofing anybody, especially politicians. I went, hoping to laugh and was very happy with the ending. Don't know how it was possible (computers maybe?) but that scene with the train speeding to what looked like the end of Agent 99 and her sidekick made for some breath holding moments.

I loved the original Get Smart series and could not wait until the movie came out.  I ordered the DVD and watched it the other night.  I am not sure whose bright idea it was to include a way to view other scenerios for certain scenes through out the movie.  It seemed that every two minutes the movie would stop and a remote would appear on the screen.  If one wants to see the alternative then you would hit select on your DVD player's remote.  The alternative scenes were not any better than the ones that were chosen for the movie.  It was so distracting and the constant stopping of the movie...

Get Smart is a great family movie. Now a days you have to work hard to find movies that are good for everybody in the family. When we first saw that Steve Carell was in the movie we were alittle worried, that it might be too adult for the kids. But we watched it and at no time did we have to cover the kids eyes. Yes there was a little bit of love in it, but you never saw them in bed "doing something nasty" as my kids say. Anne Hathaway and Dwayne Johnson also showed that they could do movies that were out of their normal range. I mean you have the ella enchanted and the rock doing movies that even...

I wasn't expecting much when I watched this movie on DVD.  I was very pleasantly surprised and had some good laughs.  Steve Carell is not overly silly and makes the character very real and lovable.  I didn't see many previews for it so I didn't see all the best parts beforehand like happens with many movies.  It was just the right length to keep my attention.  IT is good to see another side of Anne Hathaway than just gooey sweet.  My favorite part for her (or her stunt double, whatever the case may be) in this movie was when she did the spin kick and knocked one of the "bad guys" out.

As a fan who used to watch the TV series, I thoroughly enjoyed this movie.  It was funny throughout.  The two actors that played the 'geeks' should have had more screen time, but that's evident in the DVD that's out about just them.  (sorry don't remember what the title is).   It's worth watching, even if it's for nostalgic reasons.  And the end.........let's just say.........if you're a Get Smart TV series fan.....the end will leave you happily anticipating that, uh, there'll probably be a,  "Get Smart, Again" or "Get Smarter".

I usually don't go to movies and don't laugh at them very hard when I do. Especially the first time. I was crying from laughing so hard. Steve Carrell was BRILLIANT! This has got to be the best comedy I have ever seen. I can't wait for the DVD so I can buy it and watch it over and over again. That is something I don't do very frequently. Get Smart was a brilliant comedy.

I loved the movie, it had just enough "quotes" from the series, but not too much to make it nauseating. I loved "aw max" and "missed it by that much" references, and the story was good. My seven year old nephew liked it, a little less in the middle, but aren't all movies a little too long these days??

Thinking this would be another one of those "rerun TV show movies gone bad", I was very reluctant to see this.  I pretty much ate my words! Steve Carrell is brilliant and manages to bring it all together. This movie brings out laugh after laugh, even from a cynic like myself!

I don't go to the movies a lot but since everyone was talking about this movie, I thought I would try it. I love comedies and heard this was hilarious. At most, it invoked a chuckle from time to time. I wasn't impressed at all. Sorry...I would not recommend it to anyone.
