German shepherd breed Review

The german shepard is a great dog for both an individual or a family pet as long as you know what you are getting into. GSD's are a very loyal and loving breed. They will respond well to adults as well as children. As with any animal, children should be supervised and taught the proper way to interact with a live animal. Most GSD's will bond well with children in the family and become a protector and "parent" for children in their "Pack". With that said GSD's are very pack oriented and will want to establish their place in the pack. They will want to be the alpha male unless it is impressed on them that they are not the leader of the pack. When they are growing up or as an adult is introduced into your family, it is very important to establish leadership over the dog.  There is no need for physical overpowering or cruelty,simply set the boundry and stick to it. Most shepards will try to push the boundries from time to time(very much like a child) but they are by nature a pack animal and want to please you ...the pack leader. GSD's are also a high drive breed that likes to "work" or be kept busy. This will helpt to keep him or her from getting into trouble looking for entertainment. Also understand that being near you is the best reward you can give a GSD. Also, the worst punishment is to be kept away from the family. It is very common to have him or her "under foot" when everyone returns home at the end of the day. He or she is just showing that you were missed during the day. A few minutes of attention and loving will calm the dog and allow you to continue your evening with him or her laying quietly out of the traffic path.

If you have the time and love to give to a german shepard puppy,then you will have a loving and loyal companion for the rest of his or her life. They are an energetic and curious puppy but will quiet down into a faithful friend by about 2 years old. They are very inteligent and will develope a strong personality and become a member of the family!
