Gerber Nuk Transition Cup —

After reading so many glowing reviews of the Gerber Nuk transition cup, I decided I would give this one a go, even if it meant spending a hefty (approximately) $7 for a 2-pack. The pack, as I remember it, had two 7-ounce cups, two lids with removable valves, and one set of handles. Even though the price hurt this savvy saver, I was excited to finally hopefully have a sippy cup with a soft nipple and handles--maybe the baby would like thisĀ one as well!

The Good:

  • Large cup size (The cup seems sturdy)
  • Easy grip handles (My daughter had no problems finding and using the handles)
  • Soft nipple/sipper spout (My daughter was used to breastfeeding and refused to use any sippy cup with a hard spout initially.)
  • Gerber tends to provide high quality products and I have used quite a few Gerber products that are of great quality and have found their customer service to be quite good.

The Bad:

  • Every time I have let the baby drink out of this cup, it has LEAKED. I have checked and double-checked to be sure I have the valve in and that the handles are aligned and that the lid is screwed on correctly. I even put it away for a few weeks and tried again. It still leaks. BAH!!!!!
  • The valve that inserts into the lid tends to fall out, even when I know I have put it in tightly.
  • The handles can be taken off but for some reason I have had a hard time getting the handles to align properly. (You can see an example of this in two of the pictures with this cup on the floor)
  • It is EXPENSIVE and I had really high hopes for this cup.
  • The baby does not show much interest in drinking from this cup after the first few minutes of drinking and then getting her clothes wet.
  • The spout seems a little narrow to me.
  • It is a little bit hard to clean because the top is fairly narrow, but I think this was done in an attempt to have the ability to interchange lids with the bottles perhaps?

My Viewpoint:

I have tried quite a few sippy cups in a quest to find one that does not leak that my daughter will use. Maybe I just got a set of these Gerber Nuk Transition Cups that were from a bad batch, but I found them to be cumbersome in that I had to work to get the handles to align, then kept having to put the valve back in, and even when everything seemed to be together properly, this cup still leaked. I found the Playtex Sipster to be a much betterĀ cup with handles and a soft spout without leaks.

It's funny how many glowing reviews I read on this BEFORE I bought one.

It's funny how some people can love a product while others have a really bad experience.
